OT- How to get that matte stainless finish

OT- How to get that matte stainless finish

After hunting with my guide gun this year, I have noticed that the stainless is a little to polished for me. It reflects alot of light on the reciever and I would like to rough it up a bit. I also have a stainless Ruger Bisley conversion that is almost complete and I would like the two to match. Now, I know I can send it off and have it bead blasted, but was wondering if anyone had a home remedy for this. I have heard of some guys using fine grit sand paper or even an SOS pad, but ???? Has anyone ever tried this.

Scotch Brite pads work very well. If you use the same color on each gun they will end up matching. These are what Freedom Arms recommends for touching up one of their premiere grade guns if it gets a scratch. I think they use the maroon pads.
