Getting old is not fun!

Post by rangerider7 »

I went coyote hunting yesterday at the ranch. I took my 94 Marlin 25-20 rifle. I haven't taken one of my old levers lately. I spent hours riding around in my Polaris Ranger and walking to different spots to check them out for a late evening set-up. I finally settled on a couple and went back to the barn to get my equipment. I have a camo bag full of my stuff. I drove for a short distance and got out with my decoy, electronic call, remote, rifle, and ground chair. I sent a call number and it was skipping. I sent another and it was too. All 16 were not working. I was upset. I got up, picked up my stuff, walked back to the Ranger and went back to the barn. I tried it without the remote; no good. So I tossed my stuff in my pick-up and drove back to the house ready to kick the dog, if I had one, and bitched to my wife about what went on. She looked at me with concerned eyes and said "why didn't you used one of your many mouth calls". I just stared at her for a few seconds and said "because I was upset off and didn't even remember I had them with me". To top it off, I had a small one around my neck. It's terrible to get old and have the CRSs. If you don't know CRS stands for it is "Can't Remember Shi*". :x

Just yesterday I had a "hereafter moment". For you younger guys, that's when you get off the couch and go in the kitchen and find yourself standing there wondering "what am I here after" :D

Here you go RangeRider7, I saw this posted on another forum.

Posted 23 January 2009 06:46 PM
Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D--Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table,
Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
And notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back
On the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think,
Since I'm going to be near the mailbox
When I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table,
And see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
So I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks,
But first I need to push the Coke aside
So that I don't accidentally knock it over.
The Coke is getting warm,
And I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke,
A vase of flowers on the counter
Catches my eye--they need water.
I put the Coke on the counter and
Discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
But first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter,
Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
But I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
But first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers,
But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table,
Get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to
Remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day:
The car isn't washed
The bills aren't paid
There is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter
The flowers don't have enough water,
There is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all darn day,
And I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem,
And I'll try to get some help for it,

But first I'll check my e-mail....

This week I took a blood sugar reading and put the meter back in it's case. A hour later, I hear my cell phone ring, but had a hard time finding it. I have placed my cell phone in the meter case and the meter in my pocket. I laughted so hard, the wife thought I would have a stroke. Several such screw ups have plagued me lately. There are so many really neat things about being 66 that this kind of stuff is trivial.

I am 48 and it is already getting serious. My wife used to help me remember things or help me finish sentences etc. Now I just leave everything on the kitchen table where I can find it. Notes help but I lose the notebook and or pen. Sometimes I lose tools while using them! Looks like it gets no better.
One evening while watching tele, my Dad told my Ma he was getting some ice cream and did she want some also. She told him yes but she wanted chocolate and nuts on it and to not forget. He grouched at her for always treating him like he was losing his memory. He headed out o the kitchen and after banging around for a half hour came back with two hamburgers and gave one to Ma. She got upset and yelled at him "I told you you would forget!!!" Dad asked what the problem was. Ma answered "You forgot to put catsup on my burger you dummy!"

I always heard your memory was the second thing to go... I can't remember what the first is.

I always carry a piece of heavy card stock in my pocket to write myself notes on. I feel lost with out that.

One thing I've learned that helps me save time, when I'm looking for my glasses, the first place I look is on my nose.

Last Saturday morning, while getting ready to head off to the blind for a morning hunt, I got my old Wingmaster from the bedroom and took it into the back of the kitchen and set it by the door so I wouldn't forget it. I went about making a bit of oatmeal, ate it, and then opened the garage to get out my waders, boots, jacket and duck bag. After all was loaded up, I drove the 22 miles to the club, opened the container, fired up the ATV and went over to get my stuff out of the truck. I put on my waders, boots, and jacket, got out my bag, grabbed the...WHAT!!?. SH*T! No shotgun. Aaarghhh. I had left it at home by the door, where I put it so it wouldn't be forgotten. That, my friends, is CRS. I did run back and get the gun, much to my chagrin, and got back to the club a tad bit late for shooting time, but had a good shoot anyway. At least I turned the ATV off before headin' back home for the gun.   :?

Mike D.,

I know a brand inspector that was on his way to a branding, got the trailer hooked up, saddled his horse, grabbed his gear, then the phone rang.... He answered the call, got done, jumped in the truck and got there just in time for the branding to begin. .......his horse was still at home! He still hears about it.

Well. there is an old saying.
When one is young he worries about
growing old....but there does come a time in life when one worries more
about NOT GROWING OLD.

But on the bright side, they say
"only the good die young", so just
be bad as you can. I`m bad, A BAD

I remember a few years ago, being at my parents' house, and I could not find my car keys anywhere. Not in my pants pockets, not in my jacket, not on any of the counters. Nowhere. Finally, exasperated beyond all belief, I yelled at my mother, "WHERE ARE MY CAR KEYS??? . . . " as they jangled in my right hand. I heard them, looked sideways at them, then at my mother, and sheepishly said, "I'll go now." My mother responded, with a highly amused grin, "And you say I'm going senile." There wasn't a whole lot I could say to that one.
