Original equipment or added?

Post by iceman »

A little while ago I asked about the age of my mod 94 30 wcf and was informed it was a 1941. Thanks for the answer. I also asked if the sling attachments were original but never really got an answer. There is a stud on the stock similar to an Uncle Henrys but rounder in profile. There is also a similar shaped stud on the bottom of the forearm barrel band. The sling swivels are hook shaped and fit into the holes in the studs. I can't post pictures today but probably can on Monday. My question is are these sling swivels and attachment points original Winchester equipment or aftermarket. Thanks in advance. Iceman.

Winchester did sell such a set-up. You can see examples in Madis' book.

These were and extra cost option on the M94. Reproduction of the hook and swivle are a tad spendy so if you have both they add considerable to the gun.

Thanks for the info. I have both swivels and still use them. I don't want to sell I was just curious. I have installed a recoil pad for my son to use when he was younger and didn't like the recoil. I have the original butt plate and screws though. Thanks again.

I would suggest that it may be factory installed. It was called 'The Winchester Sling"
by the factory. By the 1950's quick detachable swivels were all the rage and that old system was not in use. It may be that a couple of sling studs were installed after market and an old Winchester sling was used.

I think they are original. The fellow I bought it from said it was his FIL and that he bought it new. The front stud is on the forearm band and looks factory.

From your description, those are original swivels ordered as an extra from Winchester. I have them on a few if my 1886s. They should look like these. A small retaining washer holds the front swivel stud into the forearm band, or cap.:) Image
