I've found a few deals over the years, but nothing like that. Congrats to him.

I go to garage sales periodically looking for that kind of deal, but all I find are paper-backed romance novels and kid clothes!

I have made a few good deals, a mod 94 circa 1941 for $75 and I traded an old Browning BPS 12 ga for a like new 9422 XTR Classic.

Highway robbery on the SKS! :D Thats how to buy 'em. To be able to "highway rob", you have to keep a positive attitude always telling yourself (and believing it!) that "this and that" will come your way for pennies on the dollar.

For real, if you want the good buys, all you have to do it spend the necessary time in the field of firearms. Go to all the shows, network with gun people, read, read, read and make yourself knowledgable of current trends and prices.
Above all, make friends in the right places. :D (see below---Targetmaster) :D -----------Sixgun

father-in-law got me a 1912 Win in 16 gauge for 15 bucks back in 1969 at a garage sale in California. Thing was, the gun was standing along a garage wall well away from the sale, he noticed it and asked if they would sell it. It's in very nice shape to this day. Serial # showed it mfg'd in 1912, low 4000's.

I can't top those gun deals, but I did buy a couple badges along with photos and papers of a law officer from Fort Worth for $35.00 in the 70s. One badge is gold. He served with "Long haired" Jim Courtright in the 1870s and chased Sam Bass around the metroplex in the old days. The group has been appraised for $25,000.00. That is the best I have done in collecting for 40 years. That kind of luck is seldom seen now days.
