Marlin Crooked Sights -- Some insight

Some of you have been reporting crooked sights/off-center sights on some Marlin rifles lately.

Yesterday, one of my local gunshops got a Marlin XLR in .45-70 in. Remembering some of your complaints, I looked at the front sight and sure enough it appeared to be installed crooked/off-center. However, upon further examination, it was the front sight hood that was cocked/crooked/off-center. When the gunshop owner took the front sight hood off the rifle, the sight was indeed installed square on the barrel. Upon inspecting the front sight hood, it appeared to be made of thinner steel thus allowing it to sag to one side when installed.

So, before sending your rifles back for sight adjustments, it might be prudent to remove the front sight hood to see if indeed the front sight itself is installed square on the barrel.

Oh, I bought the rifle. I hadn't liked the looks of the gray laminated stock with stainless steel hardware in brochures and pictures but seeing it up close and personal changed my mind. I like the looks of it.

I looked at one about a month before Christmas in .30-30. It sure did feel nice, if I could just get over that stainless.

Marlin XLR levergun - NOT "OT" - !!!

Dunno if you saw my 'updated' post on my experience with the .444 XLR, but upon checking all my other Marlins (hoods and scopes off) I realized that SEVERAL are 'crooked' - yet some of the crooked ones are among the best shooters.

From now on, I decided to just shoot the durn things and not look at 'em too closely...

I have one of those Marlin 45-70's stainless w/ laminated stocks.
A lady friend of mine ( dedicated gun hater ) said it was the prettiest rifle she ever saw!
