OT need advice on renting a car ASAP

Post by pharmseller »

I'm flying to San Diego tomorrow (12/27) for a family vacation. I need to rent a car for the 6 days we'll be there. No long-distance driving, just to the zoo, SeaWorld, restaurants, etc.
Any suggestions?

I've used Enterprise twice in the last couple of months. Good prices and service. Reservations can be made on-line. Best advice is rent the car for a full week, 6 days only won't get you a better rate.

Cheers,

I like enterprise also. Travelocity will show you the rates of all the different companies. You can often get the next car up in size for little dollars. If you want cruise control, be sure to ask. Many do not have it.

Stay away from the PT Cruiser and Pontiac G6.
Kind regards,

I've been using Avis for a few years now, but just because the company I work for has negotiated a corportate rate. I've also heard good things about Enterprise. Agree - renting for the week will probably be the same as 6 days...

Check all your credit cards some offer additional coverage on rental cars for free.

I think Hertz or maybe Avis offers a discount to NRA members. Might be something to check out if you're a member.

You're probably gone by now. The following is what I was told by AAA:

--Check w/ your insurance carrier to determine if your auto insurance will cover the rental.

--If you are covered for theft, comprehensive, collision, loss, etc., make sure that the rental company's loss of income from the vehicle is also covered. While your coverage will pay for repairs, the rental company will seek reimbursement for the rental loss while the vehicle is repaired. This may or may not be a part of your coverage.
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

I used to travel fairly extensively throughout California and sometimes to other states. Enterprise has always taken very good care of me, and has frequently given me a car upgrade. Occasionally, I had a lot of luggage and they took pity on me as a public servant and gave me an upgrade, without charging me and when circumstances did not merit it. Check-in and checkout has always (for me) been quite efficient, quick, easy.

I have used Enterprise several times at the San Diego airport and they likewise took good care of me, although the car return is a little confusing because it is up the hill from the airport (if things have not changed) - make sure you have a map because of the one way streets. It's a little confusing to navigate from downtown San Diego to the one or two roads that lead North out of town!

If you find that you have not yet rented a car and decide to grab one when you get there, check with Enterprise and see if they have any cancellations. There is a reason that they are so busy - they are the best, I believe.
