Take down with two calibers?
On the four lever only thread, I keep trying to get a 38-55 included without giving up my other choices.
Has anyone ever heard of a take down, with a second barrel for another caliber?
Like the TCC single shots, but in a Lever.

Re: Take down with two calibers?
Hi Mate,
Never seen one here in Australia, but if you have access to a copy of "The Winchester Book" by Madis there are pictures and descriptions of what you want in Model 1894 Winchesters. Shown are 30/30 and 38/55 and also 30/30 and 32 Special. See pages 417, 422 and 431.
These are originals that came as special orders from the factory.
The only thing stopping you from having the same thing made today is MONEY.
Kind regards,
Pop.

Yes there is an 86 Winchester for sale at present at Cabela's in 33 WCF and 45-70 in takedown.
Re: Take down with two calibers?
I have seen several 2 barrel and one 3 barrel Marlin sets.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Re: Take down with two calibers?
You can do it as long as the cartridges share the parent case head I believe or are at least very, very close to each other. For example, you should be able to have built a Winchester 94 in 38-55 and 25-35 in a two barrel set. As Rihmfire noted previously, I have a two barrel 71 in 348 and 450 Alaskan. The two share the same parent case ... the 50-110.
I have a really crappy dark picture of the two barrels together ...

I'd attend the Ysabel Kid school of photography, but then my feet would start showing up in them.

Rimfire, when I see your takedown, all I can think of is the ancient command, given at Mt. Sinai, that went something like, "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's drop-dead, gorgeous '86".

Re: Take down with two calibers?
I have started the makins for a 3 barrel set.
Started with 1920s vintage Savage 99 takedown in 30-30,
picked up barrels in 22 Savage High Power and 32-40.
Although the 30-30 and 32-40 are really in the same class
I have picked up a 200gr mold in 32 and also a vintage
adjustable mold in 32. The 22 Savage HP is supposed to
use .227-.228 bullets of 70 gr. I have a mould on order
from New Zealand that will give me a 70 gr GC and a
62 gr flat base bullet. Along with several 30 cal vintage
moulds. I will probably work on this in the spring and
summer as I am still looking for forend parts.
I will be doing a pre-1900 Stevens Favorite before I get
to this one (will be first gun I build) and I'm really looking
forward to working up loads on the 22 HP/30-30/32-40
setup. So that will be my first CF to rebuild and it will be
fun if it works out (beware the one gun man, lol). Oh,
yeah, for those of you who don't know these had a 410
barrel option and I may go there as well after the rest is
done.

Re: Take down with two calibers?
My BIL told me about a 4-barrel set Winchester 94 that recently was auctioned at Little John's Auctions in Orange, CA... IIRC it had barrels for .25-35, .30WCF, .32-40 & .38-55. The catalog listed it as the sole such example.

Re: Take down with two calibers?
Kirk, having seen your calendar, I know you're in possession of plenty of fine iron yourself and you've obviously got a great eye with the camera.
I'm hoping to take that gun out over the holidays and blast away with Duff L Bagg, Rihmfire, and anyone else who can make it over. I've got to thin the necks on some fresh brass before I can load it though. Tedious.

Here's mine. .33 and .38-56 WCF. The .38-56 is a 1/2 octagon barrel.

Re: Take down with two calibers?
There's a VERY elderly Avon, CT FFL/dealer, who's displayed mostly handguns at the Mass "Big E" gun shows for over more than twenty years, who also has had F/S a Win 94 takedown .30-30 with and extra barrel/forearm/mag/etc in .38-55 for almost forever.
For all I know, it's STILL unsold !

Mke D,
That is one sweet set! I have always had a thing for half round barrels and a soft spot for the 86's. Very nice.
