OT- Hey Tutt! Here's another Enfield. Better action pics.

Post by 2ndovc »

My No.7 Mk I
.22lr trainer.
According to Ian Skinnerton's book,
these were made for the Royal Austraiian Air Force. The contract was for 2500 of them
but no one knows for sure how many were completed.
I just happened to be at the right place at the right time for this one.

the .22 magazine is removable from the main mag. If I remember right all the other
.22 trainers are single shots.

Amazingly accurate and super fun.

That is GEORGEOUS (however you spell it!)

Sounds like it is rare among Enfields! Better not sell that one! I'm with Jeremy we could use more details!

That is one very nice rifle. I have one SMLE the Mark III No.1 in 22 caliber and it is a single shot. The follower and spring are taken out of the magazine body, the empty round will fall into the magazine body to be emptied out later. I also have the 22 conversion unit which is a rifled barrel liner. It is made to slip into the exsisting barrel and held in place with a nut at the muzzle end. This is for the MKIIINo.1 as well. Both shoot better than I can. I have never seen the No.4MKI in this configuration. Great catch.

The No.7 uses a five round magazine that fitted into the original.
Also the bolt is different in that the bolt head is about 2" long and
uses a two piece firing pin.

A lot of the No.7s are incomplete. Many are missing firing pins, magazine inserts, extractors and / or ejectors.

I bought mine at Springfield Sporters in Pen Run, PA. It used to be a great place to go and spend a day ( before the old man passed away and
his dopey kid ruined the place).
At that time my Dad and I and a couple other guys used to spend a ton of dough up there and
they would unlock the werehouses for us to go dig out what we wanted. We got a bunch of great stuff out of there!

On one visit a delivery truck had just dropped off a couple of big crates. One contained about two or three dozen of these No.7s.
We picked out three very nice ones, I think we paid $400 a piece at the time headed home. The rest sold in about a week.
My Dad's has a much lighter colored stock but is in the same condition.

Just being in the right place at the right time.

I was worried - with you living in CA and all, thought you might be dropping hints or something!

Just kidding!!! Don't sweat it - if spelling was a requirement here, Hobie would have booted me around 6,000 posts ago!!!

She's a tack driver that's for sure. Off sand bags I once pulled off a 1" / 100 yrd five shot group. Doubt I could do it again but it sure is fun. It's a picky feeder though. You have to make sure to load the mag just right, with each rim in front of the one below it or it will hang up.

She's accounted for a couple long range woodchucks too. :D

Well the way you have to load the mag is in keeping with the .303 version those darn rims like to hang up it you dont load them right.
