I have a confession, I have been forsaking my levers.
I traded for a Remington 700 BDL Deluxe in 22-250 a few months back and put a 6.5-20X40 scope on it. It shoots a little over 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I have been taking it with me to a deer stand and picking off coyotes at unbelievable distances, for me, 350-400 yards. I use to take one of my old levers in 25-20, 32-20, 38-40, and 44-40 to do the job. With my old eyes the scope makes it very easy. My old levers are getting dusty and seem to be a little put off. I am writing this confession to remind me to pick a lever now and then. I hope it works.
It really is almost to easy with that rig, but I don't get the satisfaction I use to with the old levers.

OK, so I'll forgive you! But only because I too own a Rem 700VSF in .22-250 and know how great they shoot! Plus I recently bought one of the new Marlin XL7C's in .270 and have been secretly playing with it too! But don't tell anybody!!!!

Confession is good for the soul. That's what those rifles are for - 350 to 400 yds. I am sure you will find a load that will go half that. Although that is still about 4" at 400 yds.
Re: I have a confession, I have been forsaking my levers.
I also confess. Out of the 3 guns I picked up this year 2 where bolts a 1 was a lever.
I'm playing with the Savage 340 in 222 and a Ruger in 243. Now don't get thinking I'm switching over to bolts. This only makes 3 bolts that I own , the third being a Krag. I have 5 times as many levers. No more bolts on the list for 09 hopefully 2 more levers . I need something in 25 cal.
Man I feel so mouch better with that off my chest !

I have been pretty good about buying and shooting my levers, but I have got to tell you that post of Nath's new .308 really has got me thinking about a new bolt gun

I bought a Rem TI in 7-08 and mounted a leupold VX1 2-7 on it. I confess to carrying it more then a few times deer hunting this year. It's as light all up (scope, loaded) as a peep sighted 336 or win 94. I carried my levers more though, not that it made a difference as I got skunked this year.

Shootin' coydogs is a chore. Chores should be accomplished using the best tools for their completion... since it sounds like you've eliminated all those at leverfun distances, you must need the "glass" & less springy platform of a bolt... yea, that sounds like an acceptable justification!
NOT!!!! AIN'T YOU HEARD OF A "CALL"?

Same here. I hunted a corner of property over looking open farm fields on a Sunday and just watched the deer run by at 300yds plus while grasping my trusty 30-30.
Having enough of that I went back out two days later with my Savage 110 Tacticle in 300Win and busted the 1st deer I saw at 350+ yards. Some times you got to do what you got to do.

I am with you Old Savage if ya have to have one of these new fandangle calibre's then a BLR or a Browning Hi Wall in what ever calibre you like, own 7 rifles all levers, gee my hand loaded 33wcf's out of my old 86 will knock a roo over at about 200 yards one shot, that's good enough for an old goat like me. It's hard to believe that the West was Won without all these modern contraptions, them old timers must have been special.

Griff, I have used so many different calls: 16 different electronic digital, 4 different mouth, mouth diaphragm, plus 3 different decoys that the coyotes are as confused as I am. They think there is a varmint party going on but they don't know where it is, so they just stand around and look for me. By the way there are some big "coyotes" out here on the ranch. Killed one the other day that weighed 58 pounds. Looked more like a wolf, dark and mean. As they get bigger the farther away I want them when I kill them.

Obtainest thou a .22-250 BLR, then go forth and sin no more, my son !
