OT-Old Stevens shotgun

Saw an interesting shotgun over the weekend.
It was Stevens single shot that you had to pull the trigger to get it to break open the barrel.
Something I had never seen before. How to you check to see if its loaded without touching off a round?
That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.

There has to be some sort of safety or interlock there. I'm not familer with that model.
