OT - Wireless Network Problem, Help Needed

Well guys, I set up my desktop (PC) with a D-Link wireless router and it seems to work just fine. However, my daughter can get her Powerbook (Apple) to connect. She has AirPort. I know zip about Apple and she's never had a problem before using a D-Link router at her house. What to do?

She should first try typing in the name of the wireless network connection if it doesn't show up automatically when she searches for connections. Sometimes that works. If you have other wireless devices that are on, does she see those? Can you see her laptop?

My wife's laptop is a Dell but it will sometimes boot up and not connect to our home wireless system. Many time it just has to re-boot to see the connection. Neither of us are very computer literate. Most of what I've learned has been by trial and error.
Has you daughter ever used her laptop on another wireless system?

If all else fails Apple or the manufacturer of the router should have some kind of trouble shooting line.

There are a few things needed for her to connect wirelessly.

You have to know what type of signal she is using (802.11b, g, or n)
If your wireless router xmits in 802.11n and she has an 802.11b they won't connect. So, you have to set the router to xmit in all three (802.11b, g, n)

If you set your router for secure wireless with a pass code, she has to type that in to recv.

If you set the router security program to only allow certain IP addresses, then you'll have to input her Apple's IP address in the Network security program

There are no other wireless devices. I've not yet gotten a laptop to connect (next big thing).

#1 - don't know but that makes sense. I believe I can do that and will after work. #2 - had the key code but... no connection so a moot point (I take it). #3 - I can add her IP, it isn't added yet. D-Link's documentation says that it will detect an "intrusion" and then prompt for an action. (IIRC, I'm at work right now) It didn't do that. Trying to add the device, it couldn't detect her laptop. I think signal type might have something to do with it. Seems logical.
