Post by dgr416 »

I messed up big time year before last when I passed up a 1895 in 405 for $800.I am looking for a used one to shoot and hunt with not to sit in the closet.I shot one this summer and really got the bug for one.I hope someone might know of a gunshop has one reasonable.I know where a bunch of high grades are for $1600 but I hope to find one for $1000 .Maybe some one can help me with this thanks.

I found some take down 405s but they want $1600 for them.I could have gotten one of the high grades for $1250 two years ago.I didnt know i would like the 405 so much .They are fun to shoot.A blr in a 450 marlin might work but Teddy roosevelt didnt shoot one.

Yes, I like shooting the .405 also. I have a Winchester/Miroku 1895 deluxe in .405 that has never been fired and would like a Grade 1 to shoot and hunt with. The takedown feature on my 1886 is so nice that I want an 1895 .405 like that.

Me to! Except in 30 Gvt. I keep finding them at very good prices, but in 30-06.

I've been watching this one, might be a good project gun?

.30-40 barrel length was 28" standard. That one has been cut down, but that's OK. Trash the wood and replace it with a shotgun butt stock and you are good to go. Doubt that it will go for the starting price, but $700 should score it.

I recently purchased one of the new .405 takedowns with the casehardened frame and she is pretty! I'll have to post up some pics in the next few days!

I've been watchintg this one. It's above your budget, but it's ready to go hunting right now, and well worth the price with the extras that are included. Everytime I look at it I get a little itchy....

It's been relisted so the seller may be ready to deal.

This is exactly how I would set up a 405, except I sure would like a takedown. But the sights, sling eyes, and pad are perfect IMO.

Geez...I'm about to talk MYSELF into it.

I love mine! It's serial #12 from the first run of .405's and is an excellent shooter. If it were me, I'd get a later version that is D&T for an `86-style receiver sight.

Only THE very last run of 405s were DTed. I have the next to last of the faux CCH version and it is not DTed. My friend's faux CCH takedown IS DTed.

Well, it's not a .405 caliber but it sure is a Winchester 95 in 30-06 (one of 10,000 made in 1995 by Miroku under license - only 3,000 were in this Hi Grade). My wife gave it to me for our 25th anniversary nearly three years ago -

The day I got it -

It shoots at least as good as it looks. :D

After reading of some of Teddy Roosevelts exploits with lever action rifles all over the world, and knowing the 1895 was one of his favorites on large game, one cannot help but want one for himself. I bought an 1895 Winchester a few years back, and got a good supply of hornady ammo for it too. I'm recently retired now, and hope tp hunt with that beauty real soon. I hope you get one too my friend, nice piece of iron.

OJ,

OJ;
You look as happy as I did when my wife gave me a Parker Repro 12 ga steel shot special!
She also gave me the go ahead to pick up this new .405

Yep, she is a keeper (the wife that is).

I like the Williams just fine - I have williams FP rear sights on my Winchester 94 and BL22. The Winchester 95 was the only one that required drilling/tapping - but it is worth it for me, at least. One click gives 1/4 MOA change in POI.

That one attaches to the tip-off grooves rimfires have for scopes.

:D

And on the BL22
