Uberti Colt .45 (Chisholm)

Post by Tennessee Hayre »

Well I went to the store today and purchased a New Uberti (Chisholm) Colt .45 (Single Action) It seems to be a very nice gun. Since I just spent $498.00 I would like to know if anyone on this forum has the same gun and what are the good's and bad's about it. I have been looking at the used gun shops for sometime and could never find one so I bought a new one. I could not wait any longer. I told my wife their is no way I can explain why I need it, and that I have ran out of excuse's on the other 15 guns that I have bought over the years. So she was not impressed and just rolled her eyes. :D I told her I just had to have one. Oh well..

Tell her it is better guns than women or booze or dope...

I hear good things about the revolvers now and then. I hope you enjoy yours. I really like the cartridge!
Sincerely,

Hobie

At least you didn't have to wait 33 years and end up with a parts gun that cost more than your new one ..... :D :) ( Just kidding NKJ, you know I'm happy with it. )
Enjoy it.
And when or if you need parts for it, check out VTI. They have just about anything Uberti or Italian made.

What is the Chisolm? I've got a Cattleman that I really love, and another old one that I don't even know the model.

I have no Idea about the (Chisholm) thingy, (re-edit) Maybe named after the Chisholm Trail. Just a guess. I did look on the web and saw the Cattlemen style and it looked just like it. Walnut handgrips and blued steel. I have a single action ruger new modle blackhawk and it as you know has the little pc of metal that the hammer hits to make contact with the cap and on the Uberti it has a spur like the S&W revolvers model 19's which I like. Other then that to me they all look the same. Can't wait to take it out. I will be the first to pull the triggeron it.(except for the guys who test fired at the factory). Looks like a keeper.

By the way , Would it be safe to fire (+P ammo) in this revolver and what would be the best all around game round.

No +P ammo for these guys. The Uberti SAs are Colt copies and as such just don't have the metal in the cylinders or frames to handle the pressures of the +P loads.

My max is 9.0 grs Unique under a 255gr to 270gr Keith SWC. There are many powders and bullets that can duplicate this, but I love the K.I.S.S. principle.

You will find when shooting your Uberti that it feels totally different from your Ruger. Ruger's grip frame is redesigned from the original and changes the balance of the revolver a lot.

If your Ruger is a .45 Colt I'd keep the +P stuff for that and use the standard loads in the Uberti.

Thanks J Miller, that was the info I was looking for. I could have purchased a larger revolver but I wanted a copy of the old west design. The ruger I have is chambered in .357 mag. I ask for the hunting loads for this weapon but I really don't plan on hunting with it. Thats what my .44mag S&W is for if I decide to do that. If I can kill a wild dog, hog, sick fox, or 2 legged animal (bad guy) with it when I am in the woods deer hunting and so on , then it will serve its purpose.
