Graphic pix of 207 grain hard cast deer damage.

Post by Tycer »

207 grain plain base .360 diameter, 1875 fps.

Not a great shot. I shot way high and a little back. God was watching and directed the bullet to pop both lungs, the top artery and completely remove one vertebra.

As has been the case every time with this bullet, a 3/4" hole was "cored" through and through. The exit wound appears to show the bullet tumbled.

The pix do not give justice to the perfectly round 3/4" hole where the vertebra was.

Very nice Tycer...Congratulations and thanks for sharing that! One rarely sees actual reports/photos of cast bullet performance. What was the meplat like on those bullets...were they WFN or FN or in between?

Aloha Tycer, Do you get any leading with the plain base at that velocity? Do you prefer the 207 over 185 load? What powder were you using? Thanks for sharing, can't wait to get back in the field.

That looks like a good reason to continue using the cast bullets to me. I wouldn't be averse to using that round on deer. Tycer, I hope you enjoy eating the rest of that deer.

I presume 35 Remington? Nice job. You can eat right up to the hole :)

The bullet is a plain based WFN sized .002" over bore size and lubed with LBT blue. No leading. I have what Junior Doughty calls "black bore" which is a well seasoned bore having a dark smooth finish. Kind of like a seasoned cast iron skillet. I have not cleaned the bore in a couple of years and several hundred rounds. I do keep the action cleaned. The gun is a Win 94 AE .357 mag shooting 360 Dan Wesson brass with 17.5 grains of Lil'gun over a WSPM primer.
Kind regards,

Good on ya!
What was the distance of the shot? What type of sights do you have on the .357?
