Picked up a neat Marlin scope today, and it turns out to be the scarce #2 mount system, which is a 4 point mount, instead of the standard 3 point, as used in the Marlin #1 scope. A bonus was it has bases setup to fit the 1893 or 1894 Marlins with Hepburn holes in the receiver! The front base fits the rear dovetail, and the rear fits the Hepburn factory holes.
I mounted it on the 1893 I recently purchased, and it fits like a glove!
Vall, that is REALLY slick! It's a real look back at "what the modern rifleman will use." (By the way, What caliber is the rifle,
and where - and how - do you find all these nifty items?)

Thanks Mike! It's a .32 HPS (.32 Win Spl) and the scope does date to about 15 yrs. later than the rifle, but Marlin literature lists mounts for the 1893 and the #1 or #2 Marlin scope. I've got a #1 in the original box, with papers, and the application chart.
Where do I find these things? Lots of looking, passing the word, and chasing leads! This one came from a friend who got it from another friend. The crosshairs were broken and it needed lense cleaning, so I got it for $75, (with mounts) and did the crosshairs and cleaning myself. The gun came off Gunbroker for $400, and needed a buttstock, so I scrounged one from the parts bin and fitted/refinished it, then fitted a late 1895 Cty Ltd. buttplate to it.
I have to make do with project guns, as my budget allows!-Vall
Where do you find this stuff..? You dig up stuff I didn't know existed.!

Yes, there were some people who found these "new fangled" inventions a real aid to shooting! Not often that I see one with proper mounts, as most people just had their barrel or receiver D&T'd for whatever scope they wanted. These Marlins from the early 1900's were a perfect candidate, as they had the rollstamp moved forward, and the extra holes in the receiver, so they were perfect to scope with a dovetail mount, without doing any drilling.
I had another 1893 with a Marlin #1 scope done in this same system, but I was foolish and let it get away from me. I've regretted it ever since, so I was pleased to dig this one up.-Vall
DROOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL factor way up there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice find Val,
I just picked up a Weaver B6 that should look good on my Stevens Favorite,
Just need to find mounts now.
With a little luck my 1893 will get sighted in this weekend (I hate it when work
gets me busy) after long delays. Shimed (cres feeler guage) the t/d lever, will
get it welded up when I can. Goal is black bear this weekend and I missed deer
season. Will keep my fingers crossed as we haven't been in this area before.
Does your Favorite have holes d&t'd already, or will you have it done to fit the Weaver? I've got a Favorite I want to scope, but I need to find a long scope to use the dovetails for mounts. I did this with my #4 Rem. and it fits right in the barrel dovetails.
Vall, I recall that rifle now; it's the one that came with the yellow pine 2X6 stock. You'd be hard put to know it is the same rifle. Who made the scopes for Marlin? I remember now that I had one, in its box, 40-odd years ago. Gave it, and a Winchester A5, to my best friend who lives in Cow Hampshire. The A5 wound up on a first model Model 52 Winchester he has, and I believe he put the Marlin scope on an early Model 39. Both sights went to a good home...

I've never been able to find who Marlin had their scopes made by. Some say Wollensak, and there are similarities, especially in the lenses and lense adjustments.
Yes, this is the one that had the ugly buttstock. It came out respecatable, and looks like it's been on the gun forever. The late model 1895 Cty Ltd. crescent buttplate is a nice item, and easy to fit to old Marlins.
This is the #2 and my #1 that has the box and all paperwork. Never found a home for the #1 to install on. My A5 is on my Schoiyen Ballard, and my Lyman A5 is on my Stevens 44 1/2 Schuetzen rifle.
I don't believe my Favorite is D&T, it's a 7 o'clock extractor model.
I was thinking of using the front and rear dovetails with an extension on the front.
Haven't figured it out yet tho.

That's gonna be a really long extension to make a Weaver B6 fit the dovetails! I think I'd either D&T it, or make up a mount to fit the rear dovetail, and have a setscrew to lock it against the barrel.
