Seen a neat marlin 93 today..

Post by morgan in nm »

I am sure it has been redone because the blue, while aged, was too complete to match the condition of the bore. Yes, the bore was gone. I couldn't see any light through it and it was a 30-30 made in 1912. What made it so interesting was that someone had lost the front sight blade and fit a 1906 indian-head penny in its place. This appeared to have been done a looong time ago. Wood was ok, had some scratches and one crack that had been filled in but not worth the $675 price tag to me because of the bore. Are these things bringing that much?

All in all, this was the first 93 I have ever held and if it would have been in better shape, I would be posting pictures of it.

It is somewhat unusual for a .30-30 to lose it's bbl. Maybe the thing is just full of dirt, or some other crud. If the bore is shot, the gun isn't worth anything, except for parts. Maybe a couple hundred bucks, tops.

If it was truly marked "Model '93" and not "Model 1893", then it wasn't 1912. All Marlins marked Model '93 were post WWI. How did they determine the date, since the records end at 355,600 in 1906?

To clarify, it did say 1893 but I figured that it was redundant to put the "18", my mistake. I don't know how he came up with the 1912. He deals in very nice, hard to find winchesters and savages.
