OT - I want to kill this guy...

Post by Old Ironsights »

This guy is part of the local "town herd"...
Image
I just got permission to hunt a Urban Property/Nature Preserve that is aparantly being eaten up by this guy and his girls.

Unfortunately I have to use my bow & a climber... bleah. I'm a ground guy, but it's the opportunity for up to 4 "free" deer.

Anyway, this guy has a bad limp... I'm guessing he's the same deer that was hit by the car in front of me, and almost hit by me, before running into the woods surrounding my condo. I really want to cull him before he eats windshield this year.

Hope you do the other folks around you a service. I hope he is good to eat, and that the local forage has not made him taste weird.

He eats a lot of my squirrel corn...

One of my neighbors has a salt lick. Really, for being an extended Exburb of Chicago, we are relatively Rural.

I (theoretically... :? ) could shoot 'coons, 'possums, squirrel & deer from my back window (where that picture was taken... my place is in a "county island"). But the neighbors would complain.

jeez you guys have some nice deer.

The last buck I saw (taken) was a scrawny "spork" buck, he looked like a spike buck but he had 1" forks at the very tip. So he qualified, but he was small and pathetic.

Can't blame the deer though, there's nothing to eat out here it's been so dry. I noticed the brush is shrinking back. It used to tower over me in some places, now it's sparse and basically tinder.

One day driving through Indiana I passed a herd of about 20 does running through a field. It was quite a sight.

WAIT A MINUTE, WAIT A MINUTE, WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!! Think about it!!!

Here's a guy that is homeless, works hard to get his chow and women and to top it off was hit and crippled by a "hit-and-run" driver and now you want to kill him. Why he's got more sand than you'll ever have.

How about ya rig a net and do a "live capture" on him and let him live out the rest of his days in your personal, designated, fenced in, yard area of your condo? I know it'd be a little cramped but maybe ya could find room for one of his women too.

OK, OK, I know it's not realistic, just a pipe dream, an old man's delusion but I had ta get it off my chest.

Good hunting and I hope ya bring him down quick and clean. :)

Yeah, but not as much as I would have if I had known I'd have a place to hunt.

Look at the tarsals on that deer. Look at the width of tail compared to width of hams. Check out the ear length compared to snout length. Look at the taper of the nose. He is 3 years old. I am not saying whether he should be shot or not, I am giving you something to consider in deciding whether you want to shoot him or a different one.

Well, mostly, the way he limps, he's more likely than not going to get hit fatally this year for not being able to bound out of the way (not that he was able to last year...)

I think I should get paid by the Insurance Companies.
