OT - Had to put Jeremiah to sleep today

Post by rjohns94 »

We have been battling an impaction all week. Took him to the Equine Center today in Leesburg as the local Vet said he could do no more. During the stay, as we discussed the options, (to the tune of 6-12K$), he really started going down hill fast as did his chances. I rescued him from slaughter last Feb. I spent a small fortune on getting his hooves back in condition and balanced, going through several pair of epoxy shoes. I nursed him back to great health, even to the point of bareback riding. Over the last few months, we have been nearly inseperable and he really filled a void in my life with all that is going on here. It was sad to see him suffering and I had to do what I did. Having spent $3k on him this past week in care, I know I did all I could do. He came into my life when I needed him most. I know he finally knew the treatment and love a horse deserves. I am sorry I could not save him. The world seems less happy today.

Mike,
I'm terribly sorry to hear that. I believe too that animals are here on this earth for more than domestic purposes. Take comfort that you did your best to ease his pain as he did yours for as long as possible.

Sorry to hear that Mike. A man has to do what he has to do, humanely. It still doesn't make it any easier.

Mike, you are a good man. You did all that you could for Jeremiah, and I believe he knew it. You'll catch up with him again on the other side of the Great Divide. I'm sure of it.

Sure sorry to hear about this, Mike. I sensed from the very beginning that Jeremiah was very special to you. I also know how hard it is to put down a loved pet that has been there for you and with you during difficult times. You did the right thing. In the end our beloved pets and animals depend on us to do that. God Bless and bring you Peace.

My sincere condolences. I still weep sometimes for Malcolm, the best dog I ever had, who passed away 10-19-2008. This thread just triggered tears. Some animals are really special; gifts from God.

Good on ya for trying to save Jeremiah. You did what you could. I know that sounds hollow but you did and I'm sure Jeremiah was proud to know you during the time you and he were together. I'm not much on prayers but I will definitely say a prayer for Jeremiah tonight and I hope God can ease your pain with time.

Mike -

That picture of Jeremiah would make a great screen saver for you.

When my dog Scruffy died two years ago, I made my screen saver a picture of him. Now, I see him daily. He was the best dog I'd ever had. I rescued him from a loading dock in downtown San Diego, CA when he was a 6-month old puppy. Had him for over 12-years. He died of a cancerous spleen.

Once again -- sorry for your losss. It just sucks doesn't it?

Mike,

As stated in my last p-mail, You are one of the best! Have faith that you will again see each other and you each made your time on this planet a little better, if even for only a short time.

All the best and may each tommorrow be easier for you.

Mike -

I am sorry for the pain and loss you are going through, but you know you did the right thing. No honorable man can let a beloved animal suffer just to spare them the pain of having to put it down. It's a hard decision, but it is what a man does.

Take care brother... :(

So sorry you lost your friend.I had to make a decision this year March
14th for my best friend of 13 yrs,
my Misty. I know how you feel.

What you did to give Jeremiah a chance in life, and to be cared for and loved is wonderful.I am one who
believes God loves his animals.Some
say a dog, cat, or horse does not have a soul.I believe they do. Tell me you never looked in his eyes and
didn`t see one.I saw a soul in my
best friend looking back at me.

And God breathed life in to his animals before us, and when time ends
who can believe a loving God will not
have a place for all his animals, including all loved and abused creatures created for man to rule over.

Right now he is grazing in green pastures set aside for all like him
who were loved in this world. Will you
see him again?? If he is truly in your heart You better believe it.

God had a plan to put him in your
life for a reason...and he has seperated you both for now, but...
not for forever.

Mike, words can't easr the grief you are feeling. I know how close you were to J, and how much that animal loved you, and you him. You did everything you humanly could...rest easy in that. Remember the chances you gave him and the fun-loving, quality times he experienced because of your generousity and care -- running the fields, playing with his girlfriend, spending time with you and the affection you both shared, and yes, even his cantakerous adventures (the barn doors will never be the same!). You gave these things, and an extended life, to him. Gifts he never would have experienced without your love.

You know how much I believe that our loving animals will be there for us in that great green pasture, waiting for us to come home to them. J will be right there, along with Ruger, Callie and Sabby, ...waiting for you to come home to them so that you all can be together in God's peace and love for all eternity.

My prayers are with you and J, Bro.

Mike,

So very sorry to hear about Jeremiah. You did a wonderful thing in rescuing him and making his life better even though it was cut short.

Every once and while an animal passes through our lives that touches us so deeply that They can never be forgotten. Be happy in the thoughts of him and that his last days were his best
