As per my promise after the election I went out and put a rifle on layaway.
I knew I wanted high speed and flat shooting and newer then my 30-30 so I went with a wildcat of an caliber the 30-06.
I'm telling you this caliber is going to be the latest and greatest.
Can't speak to the 4x4, but if the quality is anything like their shotguns, it'll outlast you. I still hunt and shoot clays with the same Model 500 pump gun that my dad bought me when I turned 14, back in 1981. I've had to replace the tang safety button 3 times, I think, and that's all. They aren't fancy and pretty, but they go bang darn near everytime.
Make sure to post some pics and range reports when you can.
Some people just need a sympathetic pat on the head.....with a hammer. Repeatedly.
Latest & greatest is dead right. You whippersnappers can even get it in levers nowadays! I'm a BIG Mossy fan...just don't have the coin for a new .338 4x4 right now. Spent ma muny on the lect ion.
WCF...hope to see some 1/2" groups posted. Love my 500 20ga. by the way.
Like your posts just fine...
A few years ago I was going on a last minute hunting trip and picked up a Mossberg ATR 100 30-06 and added a Bushnell 3-9x32 scope. Got everything for $255 out the door.
I cleaned it and went to the 100yd range with some factory Rem CL 150gr PSP. The very first 5 shots went into 3/4".
Adjusted the scope for 2" high at 100 yds, then headed off to the 200yd range.
The next 5 shots all went into a nice 1.75" group.
I took an 8ptr at close to 175yd the next day. It took a step or two and folded. The exit wound was the size of a golf ball.
The bolt action was smooth, the recoil mild, and the accuracy was better than 1 MOA. Not much more anyone can ask of it. I doubt your experience will be any different.
...and I don't think he even knows it...Walks around with a half-assed grin...If he feels fear, he don't show it. Just rides into hell and back again.

I've seen 3 of the Mossberg rifles in the field with clients. I don't know the models but nonetheless all were very accurate and none of the owners reported any problems or dislikes. We just finished a hunt where some of the biggest animals ever to roam the ranch were taken. Several fell to a 30-06, some with 220 gr Kodiak bullets and some wtih the 240 gr Woodleigh Buffalo bullet. The Woodleigh bullet is interesting since it was created specifically for shooting water buffalo Down Under. I'll report those results separately in a few days. In regard to your other post on the '06, after this week I will echo the "from mice to elephants" phrase.
