I would really like to kill a bear but hardly know where to start. I do not know anyone in my neck of the woods that has taken one so I have no one to ask.I have grown to trust most of what I read here and respect the opinions of the posters. I have done some looking on the web and learned that Maine has the highest population of bears in the U.S. If some one has experience in hunting bear I would love to hear what you have to say. Once I decide where to go then I'll have to decide which Levergun does the deed. Will it be my BLR 358,M-336 .35Rem,or the M-1895G 45/70?

If you are looking for something a little more "exotic" and adventurous, look into a charter boat out of POW island here in AK. Live off the boat for a week, eat fresh crab, halibut, and salmon, spot and stalk the beaches from the big boat. The black bears on POW are HUGE. Much like their humpbacked cousins, the beach bears "put on the pounds"

Get in touch with Dennys River Guide. He's in southeast coastal Maine and runs a great hunt. My brother and I went up there this fall for a three day hunt. We both killed a bear on the first day, and enjoyed the rest of the trip fishing, canoeing and sightseeing. Very reasonably priced too. Same outfit papabear is talking about.

I'd suggest you get a hold of Joe (86er). Very reasonable, knowledgeable and will treat you right.

If you don't mind crossing the border I have a great Canadian trip too. It is a little more "camping" than the ME trip, but you will see more bears and the success rate runs 100% for the last 5 years we've hosted it. If you want to be the group leader of 4 hunters I can drop your price significantly. It is also listed on our website www.tarsporting.com I may be personally attending that trip this year.
