Winchester '92 Limited Series, Advice Sought

Post by JJ_Miller »

I picked up a 92 Win. in 32-20. When I ordered the rifle I didn't know it was a Limited Series, 1 of 500. I have #332. It is Jap made and my question is are these really that rare ? I want to shoot it ( thats why I bought it ) but I do not want to destroy a true collector rifle. My personal feeling is shoot it. It is a Davidsons special run, they can always order more and its made in Japan. I am not that well versed in Win. collecting, what says the board ?..................................JJ

Shoot it. It might be a 'limited edition' but it is meant to be shot. Not shooting it is near to a crime.

I surely will/does have some collector value. Why would it not? It is a limited run, high quality firearm. Keep the box and papers and shoot it. It will loose a little value to a collector if you do shoot it but it will be minimal as long as it is well cared for. Keep it original and well kept and all will be well. They are made to be shot. Enjoy. 1886.

Why would anyone possibly have a gun they couldn't shoot? Lordy, Lordy, that's what guns are for -- to shoot.

I too picked up a Winchester 1892 "1of 500 Limited Series" in a 45LC Trapper #145. I've put 50 rounds through mine. A very high quality rifle and fun to shoot. Not a collectable like the originals...use it for sure.

If the rebounding hammer is an issue, you can do something about that: http://web.tampabay.rr.com/jimstags/win1892/index.htm

Disclaimer:

Joe Miller, known hereabouts as J Miller is not, and never has been a collector. He is a shooter and will shoot any gun, no matter how old or rare if he can.
He is no friend to those with the collector mindset. If he were to some how get his hand on Colt's SAA serial # 1 he would fill it full of black powder loads and shoot it.
To him collectors are suffering from a misguided belief that guns are somehow special and to be preserved at all costs. They are tools used to make holes in things, no more, no less.

End of Disclaimer

Shoot it, by cracky!!! The few extra collectors dollars you might get for it if you sell it someday is a poor substitute for years of enjoyment of a very fine rifle in my favorite varmint caliber.

I own number 302, it is well made and extremely accurate. I just ordered an 1885 in 38-55, the japs make nice guns. Shoot it that's what it was made for.
