Thanks for my first gun!

Post by huntress »

Thank you so much to the very generous anonymous man who sent me my very own Henry 22 Rifle! I am so honored that you thought of me. I can not wait to go out and use it. I promise to continue to do well in school, I know that was important to you. I currently have an A average in all subjects. I am attaching some pictures that my mom took when she gave me the gun. I hope you enjoy them. Thank you again for your generosity!

Congratulations, Lindsay. Seeing you shoot that .30-30 in August, I'm sure you'll handle the Henry just fine. Keep up the good work and be safe!

For the benfactor, the generousity of this forum never ceases to amaze me. That is a fine thing you did!

Congratulations Lindsay. A generous person has given you a wonderful present. But you're giving yourself a wonderful present too, through your success in your studies. Remember, your knowledge is something that will serve you well for your entire life. No one will ever be able to take it from you. Now, when you graduate and become a success in life, remember this good deed, and spread it forward. Good luck and keep it up! :D

Lindsay,

Thanks for sharing with us. My first rifle, purchased when I was the tender age of 37, is a Henry rifle. I have had it for 5 years, and shot about 6,000 rounds through it. It is my favorite gun. Here it is:

Affirming above - may God bless the donor(s).

And may God bless you, Lindsay, for showing the good sense and putting forth the effort to get those A's! The schooling and discipline involved in learning will both stay with you for the rest of your life; and that rifle will allow you to enjoy an American tradition while enjoying the great outdoors - a good balance!

Coongratulations! You deserve it.

Just remember the four rules of firearm safety and you'll never harm yourself or another unintentionally.

1) Treat all guns as if they are loaded.
2) Never point a gun at anything you do not want to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
4) Know your target and what's behind it.

Enjoy!
Kind regards,
Tycer

Quick background info for those that may not know: Lindsay was provided a blackbuck hunt at the 2008 Leverguns Summer Safari that our members purchased for her. She was the first to use the Ranch Rifle that was also donated by the forum. After reading her post regarding that hunt a forum member contacted me and said he would like to get Lindsay her own rifle. I put him in touch with the parents and this is the result. It looks like not only a rifle and case but eye and ear protection, a cleaning kit and a brick of ammo! A very generous gift from a forum member who wishes to remain anonymous! This young lady has proven responsible and her non-shooting parents are to be praised for allowing her to grow in this sport that is foreign to them. I encourage both parents and Lindsay and little sister to enroll in a hunter safety course together! Then the rest of the family should pick up the rifle and experience the thrill - then go get your own! Well done everyone!

Truly outstanding for all involved, the donor, the parents, and of course Linsay!

Lindsay, remember to take a camera with you and give us range reports when you
get the chance to shoot.

I don't remember what range you have shot at but I take my 16 year old neice to
the indoor range as often as her busy shedule allows. I even bought her a left
handed bolt action rifle since she tried all mine and decided what she wanted.
The indoor range is only 50 feet but it helps build confidence and familiarity
with proper usage of your firearm. You don't realize how lucky you are, my neice
is still waiting to rabbit hunt (busy girl).

Again my thanks to all involved,
Jay

Lindsay, it sounds like you have earned a great deal of respect. More respect than those of us on this forum likely give most adults, in fact. That is something to be proud of, and the gun is symbolic of that respect and trust.

Friends like that are the kind you need in life; they will get you through the rough spots every time. Hopefully your life won't have too many rough spots, but always remember that there ARE good people out there (and most pro-gun, pro-freedom types fit into that category, by the way).

Congratulations. Keep your grades up and stay safe.

While a nice idea, IMO part of the responsibilityof gun ownership is putting your hard earned money into practice.

.22 is inexpensive enough for a Responsible Kid to put pocket-money into, and will teach ammunition conservation/frugality and importance of selecting the "best" brand/load for that particular gun.

I think Lindsay will be fine. 8)

THAT'S what chores are for... :!:

When you get the really BIG chores, sometimes you even get reloading stuff, holsters, or guns...

The "gift" wasn't the gun, anyway, it was the TRUST AND RESPECT of a bunch of life-hardened adults. Tell me - of the 20,000 or so elected officials, 20,000,000 or so bosses, and 100,000,000 co-workers out there, just how many of those ADULTS would you give the respect you've all given this "kid" - ammo is trifling compared to the gift you (especially the rifle donor) have shown this girl-to-be-woman.

If she doesn't get all starry-eyed over some sperm-infested teenage BOY during her teenage years*, she'll turn out to be "one to ride the river with" as Louis L'Amour would say.

*(come to my office and I'll give you my "teenage girl" lecture for free - bottom line - don't trust any male between age 15 and 95, and you may make it through adolescence...)
