OT - Mock Scrapes

Post by deerwhacker444 »

Do any of you fellas have any luck making mock scrapes this time of year? I've never really tried them, but some people use them on the Cuddeback website to get good pics of bucks in their area.

If you make mock scrapes, what kind or brand of lure do you throw down to entice bucks to visit, and do you do anything special when making the scrape.?

i have used them and they do work in areas with lots of bucks... typical scrape is about 2 foot square.. using a stick tear the soil up pretty good and pour rutting buck urine in it... make sure your scrape has a overhanging branch above it about 4-5 feet off the ground.. tinks makes a very good urine scent and also the scent to apply to branch overhanging scrape... check in a few days to see if there has been any action, i usually place a twig in the scrape and take note of where it is so when i check it i can tell if something was there... if you can tell it has been checked out, poor some doe in heat urine in it.. also saturate a tampon with the doe in heat urine in it and tie a four foot long string to it. tie this to your belt loop and drag it behind you in the direction you want the buck to travel. it works very well and if you spend the entire day hunting it, not just morning and evenings but a full day it can produce... the biggest bucks usually make their rounds between 10 am and 2 pm during the rut... that has been my experience anyhow... good luck.. also make sure to use a cover scent for yourself, i like a little dab of red fox urine on my pants leggs, and i always wear rubber boots in my huntin woods
