350 Grain Woodleigh Ballistics (Help)

Post by Tennessee Hayre »

Does anybody know where I can find Info on the Garrett 350 grain Woodleigh ammo. I need to find out what the bullet drop is at 50 to 200 yards. I plan to zero at 100 yards. A Ballistics chart would be great.

A trajectory sheet on the Woodleigh 350 wouldn't help all that much. As loaded by Garrett, the nose of the bullet is flattened for tubular magazines and a pretty healthy flattening at that. To tell the truth, the trajectory is not going to be all that different than any other 350 FP, at least not to the degree that it would be significantly off target. The BC won't be below .200 and won't be above .260 and there is isn't that much different in drop between those BCs over the range you are talking about. It is a good bullet at the loaded velocities (2100fps from my tests from a 22") and at the moderate pressures (yes I tested them) that Garrett loads to, compared to some others. It is excellent all-around load.

Thanks Leverluver, So, most likely "zero 3" high at 100 yards should give me about center mass (bullseye) at 150.

I know us folks out west can sometimes be a little "matter of fact" about sighting in, since we often can do it out the back door. I grew up in the east (left at 17) and I do remember that it was hard to find a range for sighting in at any range let alone multiple ranges but, in truth, the only way you will know is to shoot it at 50, 100, 150, and 200 Yds. Whether you have iron sights, scope sight, how high the scope sight is mounted, all can factor in to where there is no set rule. I also know the computer age crowd like and trust their programs but I don't. Just too many variables for me. To know for certain, you have to take the time, make the trip, and burn the powder. Just know if you connect with that load, you will need to pull out your skinning knife. Good luck.

I get out to the range at least once a month, I spend about 3 hrs each trip with at least two rifles each time. I put rounds on top of each other most of the time when I try hard, because I know my guns and ammo. I have just purchased a box of the 350's from Garrett and plan to get my new scope zeroed on the 45-70 . It's always nice to have some knowledge before you head out on some unknown ammo. I just wanted to know if anyone had used this ammo in the Marlin guide gun and what kind of results they got. So far the charts have been pretty close on the other stuff I have used. We have a range here in Clarksville Tn, with targets out to 400 yards. Thanks for the Info

I've tried the 350 Woodleighs at the same velocity Garrett list fired from my 22" barrel. Here's what I got:

Dead On at 25 yds
+1.5" at 50 yds to 75 yds
+ 2.0" at 100 yds (maybe just a little higher than 2")
+1.5 at 125 yards
Dead On at 150 yds
-2.0" at 175 yds
-5.0" at 200 yds
-8.0" at 225 yds
Off the paper low past 225 yds (12X12 target).

I hope that helps ya!
