POLITICS - More UK pocket knife demonization
A Jacket to Die For!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... gPage=true
Note the forced perspective and manner in which the knife is held in the first photo to make the knife blade look bigger (while almost concealing the deadly corkscrew attachment). The pic with it in the pocket still open is truly ridiculous and even has this quote below it: "Unbelievable: The jacket even comes with an in-built pocket for the knife". Good Lord, that means that any article of clothing with a POCKET could conceal a knife! Quick pass a law to protect our children from dangerous clothing! Eliminate Pockets!
Also quoted from article:
The coats which were on sale at TK Maxx are made in Switzerland and are known as Strellson Jackets.
They are fitted with penknives with 2-and-a-half inch blades which are attached to chains sewn into the lining. The chain leads to an inside pocket which means they are concealed from outside view.
Remarkably, the store took the initial decision to sell the jackets just one year after one of its own female members of staff was stabbed to death at work.
Rina Panchall, 26, died at a store in Thurmaston, Leics, after being knifed 11 times by an illegal immigrant [emphasis added by yours truly - maybe it wasn't the knife's fault ].
Last night the store was heavily condemned by victims of knife crime.
Joan Holland, whose son Andrew, 16, was killed by a knife last year said: 'It's horrendous. They are promoting knife crime.
Mr Gale, a father-of-two, added: 'I pulled the chain and out came this knife. I couldn't believe it.
Mr Gale, who works as a carpet cleaning specialist, told the Sun: 'What has it come to when clothes become weapons?
'It's just encouraging kids to go out with a knife.'
It is illegal to market a blade in any way likely to encourage violence or to sell knives to under-18s.
[sigh.]

Re: OT - More UK pocket knife demonization
Kinda silly huh? Since the dawn of time man was seperated from the animals, in part, by the use of tools. A knife is the number one basic tool. In the last fifty two years I can only recall a few hours where I did not have a blade or two on my person. Those miserable hours where while on a commercial plane (I quit flying) or in the courthouse (pretty much avoid that place too!) Boggles my mind how sucessfull the fear mongers are.
Took a group of Boy Scouts from Kalifornia on a High Adventure trip here in AK a few years back. Had em on a beach yarding in Salmon and not one kid had a pocket knife to cut line with, let alone cut fish! Got back to camp and none of em had matches or lighter in thier pockets either! I was pretty stunned by that.

Re: OT - More UK pocket knife demonization
I was asked by a lady in her eighties what I thought of this AWFUL story and did I think the store should be prosecuted. I asked her if her kitchen had any knives in it and could she remember a time when all boy scouts carried knives. I then showed her my (street legal) pocket knife and the fixed blade hunting knife I had just bought.
I find that the Sheeple over here have lost touch with reality, they read garbage news papers and watch TV news reports put together by people looking to sensationalize any little thing, whilst ignoring real issues like immigration where most of our crime seems to come from.
I despair of living in this nanny state. The recent thread by 45Jack "1985 interview with KGB defector" pretty much sums up what has happened here.

it's a Swiss coat, great idea to add the place for the Swiss Army knife.
These days the Swiss could swoop in and take England without a whimper. They just don't want it.

I love this reply:
"In Switzerland people carry knives to remove skin from salami at lunch and other every day functions, because we are civilised people."

pathetic
Kirk: An old geezer who loves the smell of freshly turned earth, old cedar rail fences, wood smoke, a crackling fireplace on a snowy evening, pristine wilderness lakes, the scent of
cedars and a magnificent Whitetail buck framed in the semi-buckhorn sights of a 120-year old Winchester.
