I was in Charlotte-Douglass airport on Friday and I could not get on the Levergun's Website. A messege came up saying that it was blocked because of being a forbidden catagory " Weapons "
I know that some of you guys have had this happen to you but this is the first time I have experienced it.....Man, what is this world coming to?
We are all doomed!
Just venting

That sound like suppression of information from a public doucment. Do they allow the sale of newspapers, magazines, etc. that carry articles on or about weapons? I'm sure they do. It would be a real problem to tell the people sorry no newspapers today, you would be able to read about the shooting at the church, school, bank. Or about the rape at knife point.
Sounds like someone needs to talk to a civil rights group to stop having your civil rights abused. Freedom of Information is a right is it not?

I'm going to check into this. If it is indeed publically owned, that may be a good point of attack. However, I imagine that the response will be that the wi-fi service is offered free of charge, and they could always pull it - or make it a charge affair (which, given what is happening to most other airports, is likely to happen anyway). Of course, in airports with a charge, I can go to leverguns anytime!!!

Don't know. I travel for work, and use my work laptop. They don't have a problem with me visiting this site (though it is blocked at corporate), but I would be looking for employment faster than I could say "I didn't mean to!" if I went to one of those sites with my work laptop!!!Rusty wrote:i'D SAY MAKE 'EM CHARGE AND OPEN IT ALL THE WAY UP. btw ARE THE PORN SITES OPEN?

1) There is nothing in the Constitution or Bill of Rights about "freedom of information". You're probably thinking about the act that says if the federal or state government collects the information, we should be able to see it if it doesn't compromise national security. Why? Because we paid for that information to be collected.
2) A corporate entity has the right to filter the information that enters, traverse, and/or exits it's computer systems. They can approve or deny anything they want, and for any arbitrary reason. Why? Because they're not run by the state. They are privately owned.
There are only a handful of corporate-owned airports. Most are leased to private firms charged with day-to-day operational control.
Since public libraries cannot legally restrict porn sites, I'm sure that if you wanted to pay the lawyers, you could win a legal fight against individual airports, but it would be expensive. I think a better use of your money would be to buy more ammo.

I was a school teacher a few years back and I couldn't access anything gun related on the web, but my students could access just about anything, including pro-wrestler web-sites with half naked ladies.

Your students were probably going through web proxies to get around firewall limitations.danthegunman wrote:I was a school teacher a few years back and I couldn't access anything gun related on the web, but my students could access just about anything, including pro-wrestler web-sites with half naked ladies.

Depending on how the web site is written, there are high schools which don't have access to college web sites (.EDU) because they have ROTC. Algorithms are the epitome of zero tolerance.

Yeah, but IF they REALLY wanted to there are programs that can "dig" deeper into your hardrive to recover "lost" information.homefront wrote:Ok, but aren't you supposed to empty those on a regular basis?
I used to get on Ebay at school even though it was blocked. I would search"ebay" and would scroll down to the link that said "about ebay" and would open that. Then clicky the tab at the top that said "Home" and you're there.
More than likely the airport purchased the Websense software. I know that's what my employer uses. Here read all about it.

I absolutely hate it. I can understand the liability for porn but guns and other informative stuff is just wrong.

Like most things, the internet was sorta a wild west when it first caught on. Then the "regulator" showed up. Sorta like the line Lee Marvin sang (sorta) in "Paint Your Wagon".. "When I see a parson, I gotta get my butt on a wagon, and follow the tail of the crow". Getting harder and harder to follow that crow.
