OT-Shotgun Slug reloading

Post by Jason_W »

Does anyone know about how to get started reloading for a slug gun?

Ballistic products now has sabot slug components available
http://www.ballisticproducts.com/prodin ... =322BLS350

The Sabot is also available without the bullet, which would enable someone to reload for a little bit less. I'd like to give it a try, but I have no idea what equipment I need to get started.

I believe that RCBS makes a 12 ga. die set. IIRC, and I don't have a manual to hand, you'll also need a roll crimper (BP has those). Actually BP has everything you need including documentation.

I have to admit I'm lazy in this. I think it is just cheaper to buy some and be done with it. I don't use the slug gun that much. In fact, that is what I did. I got 50 rounds of Brenneke Black Magic loads.

Sounds like a good plan. Regulating might be a problem, might not if the range is held to 50 yards or less. Have you seen the Gun Digest article, "Poor Man's Double"? That guy used a Parker Bros. Trojan as the basis for his.

I've cast some with the LEE mold. Works ok in a standard AA shot cup with a star crimp. I put in a rifled choke tube and they will easily stay on a paper plate at 50 yds. Not really that good, but fine for close in work.
