Question for 86er

Post by Rusty »

I didn't want to hijack the other thread, but you were talking about a Lever Calibrated scope. I think I remember seeing one of those from Cabelas. Is that the one you have or are there other ones out there?

Thanks,
Rusty <><

Yes - the scope from Cabelas. It has a small field of view, very particular parallex and about 5 1/2 or 6 inches of eye relief with not a lot of variance. It is definitely not for me. I always spend twice as much on the scope as the rifle. I'll stick to that.

Thanks I'll save my money, I usually like a straight duplex anyway. They make pretty good rangefinders all by themselves if you play with them enough.

Another good option that I have recently come across are the Burris and Pentax with the Ballistic Plex reticle. Pentax used the Burris reticle by contract. You can get a variable for just over $100 (Natchez had them for $108). If you tell Burris the caliber, bullet design, weight and velocity they will tell you what the calibrations equal and send you a sticker representing such. While it may not be 100, 200, 300 yards, it is quite useful and the scopes are infinitely better than the Cabelas lever scope.
