Henry Big Boy 44 Levergun Review

Post by CEMENTHEAD »

:D 8) Hey all, Had a pretty good weekend. Went to visit old Army buddies for a Reunion of sorts. My friend Chris and his bride Amanda hosted at their new house in Alabama. 7 of us in total , wish the rest could make it, maybe next time.
Well anyway, we finally got around to going to the local range as tradition dictates. The lone levergun was a Henry 44. I didn't have any hands on experience with this one and after 1 box of rounds I came away favorably impressed. The fit and finish were perfect. The wood had a slight figure to it, with nice coloration. The action was smooth and positive. The feeding and extraction flawless despite our best efforts to try to make it bobble. We used 5 boxes of Winchester White Box 240 JSP's. Offhand balance and accuracy were spot on. We were hitting 6" gongs @ 75 and 100 yds offhand with better than 90% averages for all us. This was with the factory open sights. It just seemed to be on autopilot. If I had my druthers I MIGHT complain a little that it was slightly heavy (8lbs loaded). I guess I have another item to add to Santa's list...... Thanks for listening, Tom

I came away with a similiar impression that you have with my 45C BB. Thanks for the review.

The weight makes it great for offhand shooting. The only thing I would want to do, to my son's 44BB  , is put a ladder type carbine sight on it.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
