(A) Morons who send their little kids (pre-teen) out with the garbage wh then leave it lying around for the 'coons because the lids are closed and too hard to lift, OR
(B) 'Coons who get trapped in the dumpster because the lid was left open so the little kids sent by the Morons can heave their garbage bags (barely) over into the dumpster.
And people wonder why I'm a Misanthrope...

Those are soooo cute. We have one that comes up on our front porch and steels some cat food occasionally. Our cats just lay around and watch him eat. No fights, no fuss.
Considering this is becoming a routine I'd take a 6' 1x12 with me and slip it in the dumpster for them to climb out on. Then close the darn lid and shoo them away. Oh, take the 1x12 home each time too.

The Cops will come and shoot them, but I'm not allowed to... even though I would be using .22 subsonics from a Rifle and THEY would be using a .40... and probably punch a hole or 3 in my dumpster.

I think remote relocation is a better answer for all involved, we catch them in live traps, drive about 20 miles away & release.
I have not heard of any of them returning.
OI, you like em so much, how bout I sent a few as gifts. They killed off all but one of their natural enemies (the only one left is cars), now they and possums, skunks, squirls and rats are becoming a problem. The smaller mice and such are no problem for the cats. Last cat I had that went after the rats ended up costing a fortune in vet bills everytime he proudly brought a dead one home.

Go to the nearest reservation, only a direct vital organ hit from .22 hornet or up can kill a res. cat. Just grab the first one you see.
Res. cats are TUFF !!!!!!!!
It's really not so much a matter of "liking" them (any more than "like" the deer I shoot) as it is that I am not "allowed" to shoot them, and I don't want to see them tortured to death by the criminal/proto-gangbanger "children" in the neighborhood who would gladly poke them to death with sticks... if they didn't decide to dump bleach on them first.
I "get" a dumpster because I live on a circle with 24 other zero-lot-line town home/condos.
Frankly, I've got no problem with shooting 'coons... I just don't think it's sporting to kill them when a dumpster/havahart trap...

The only reservations out my way are for the purpose of obtaining income from gambling. The folks are doing well now, and I'm sure their cats are pretty well fed these days.

I wouldn't have a problem with it. Killing varmints is often not about sport; it's about getting rid of varmints. In this case the disposal problem is solved; just shoot and leave them be. I wonder if a .22 CB between the eyes would work?
FWiedner, I'm going to try your method. Why the red lens? Is that because it's not quite legal in your state?

IMO they don't become vermin until they come up to my house.
It's not fair to kill them for doing what they are designed to do - scavange.
My only concern is for the children who might get hurt... and then I really only care about how much time I'll spend in court. (I'd rather shoot the vermin children than the wildlife...)
Our neighborhood is surrounded by woods. There are Deer, 'Possum, Rabbit, Squirrel & 'Coon in those woods. It's not the 'Coon's fault my neighbors are Idiots.
No different than leaving food out where the Bears can get it while camping in Alaska. Stupidity is not the 'critter's fault.

Lets don't forget we are at the top of the predator chain in nature. When varmints become a problem we need to take action. When they aren't let nature take it's course. I will leave it at that.

As someone who lives is a "remote location" out in the boonies, I am sick and tired of everyone packing up their problem critters and dumping them out here on us. No offense, but we have ENOUGH problem critters of our own without all you folks who live in or closer to town bringing them out to us! Take care of your own problems don't just pass the buck onto us!
Don't flame me here, but if it's the people causing the issue, call an animal rights group and tell them these people are doing this on purpose. Heck you might even get in the local paper .
Shoot, once the cops get after them and send them to jail for 60+ years (it has to be at least that) for animal cruelty they'll pay more attention to how they dump their garbage.
Kinda like the woman that faces an $8000 fine for dumping a hampster and a gerbil in the woods.
Besides those stupid animal rights people NEED some way to spend all the money the MORONS here in Hollyweird send to them.

Ooo, I like this idea even better! Might as well use those animal-rights nutcases for something useful for a change. Besides, if they are tied up attacking your neighbors, they won't have time to harass hunters!
If your neighbors have a trash can they use till they take it to the dumpster, put a raccoon in there. Kick it real good a few times, wait till they come to open it to add more trash and watch the show. They might get the idea. We did something similar to a police car mechanic who complained to much about us bringing the patrol car in for minor work. We put a raccoon in the trunk and went the rough way back to the garage and told him there was a noise coming from the trunk, then left. NO MORE COMPLAINING!
Relocating won't work in most cases, they will be home almost before you will. Unless you see the neighbors leave the lid open don't discount the coons liifting it enough to crawl in I have watched them do it.

My place in N.M. is at the end of 56 miles of dirt road.
I just relocate them to an equally remote spot, away from my place.
They do NOT come back, other coons come, but they are different ones.
Eventually you get to a point where they don't come around anymore.
O.I. is right, the key is to control thier access to refuse.
rangerider, that reminds me of a story that a guy told me once only it involved a bobcat, a suit case and downtown St. Louis. I don't know how much of it was true, but it sure was funny to hear him tell it.
