Got a kick outta the segment during this week's American Rifleman about the Savage 99 Leeever action. They mentioned multiples times what a leap forward it was from leverguns of the day since it could be chambered in such much more powerful cartridges..... "like the .243" Huh? I thought the .243 came out in the 50s, not 1899.
Best part of the segment though was one of the writers shooting a Model 99. I don't know what it was chambered in, but it kicked him pretty good on the first shot. I watched close on the second shot and saw his eyes go closed before yanking the trigger. Ha!
