POX POX on all of you 405 Shooters

As many of you know I have been jonesing for an 1895 Winchester in 405 WCF for some time. Every time one of you would post pictures of your rifles and or hunting stories (CRS ya hear me) with your 95's I would start drooling and babbling incoherently to the point that Iris had threatened to have me committed. In order to keep myself from being locked up in the nut house, there was only one thing I could do. I bought one on Gun Broker this morning (they ought to call it wallet broker). I also snagged 5 boxes of ammo from the seller for cheap. My big concern now is not getting sent to the nut house while I am waiting for it to get here.
As soon as the DR gives me the ok so that I can start shooting again I will give a range report.Here are the pic from the G/B ad pics.

I just fondled one the other day. But with the $1400 price tag I had no problem setting it back in the rack. But I already have one in 30-06 otherwise I would have a harder time setting it down. Your going to love shooting the 1895. Hangs on your shoulder great . Excellent balance.

Those LOOK strange because all the 'guts' dropping down when you work the action, but if they're as nice as everyone says, I'll have to try never to handle one, because as most of you know - once you get your hands on a gun and it 'feels' right, you'll be obsessed with buying one! I suppose it is that way for people who collect anything with visual or tactile appeal, whether it is rare coins, antique clocks, or whatever.

Way to go!
Since you do not seem to have a recoil pad on it, may I suggest that you take your first shots standing up? Maybe you will be as lucky as I was and it will be already properly sighted in and ready to take hunting.

It may be a while before I get to shoot it, I am laid up at the house nursing a bum shoulder. I am thinking about taking the stock down to Seminole Gun Works in Mims,Fl to have Randy fit a recoil pad for me, and at that point I should be ready to slay some of these Chihuahua sized Florida deer.

The 405 is an absolutely great cartridge. Its' versatile as all get out when you reload for it. Make it do 41 mag pistol work , or load it up to stop a rampagin elephant.
Limbsavers 10112 recoil pad is a really close fit without doing anything more than taking the factory steel plate off. Just a tad of sanding on the comb on one side, and the toe on the other.

Remember the one in the Gunners Bible by Riviere? A Russian musket converted to .30-40. I didn't like the scope but the rest of the gun was a great thing to think about each night while awaiting the Sandman's visit.

Hey Rimfire, maybe it will be like shooting p-dogs. I shot one with the spire point at ~40 yds and the bullet didn't even open. It wedged the p-dog apart but otherwise it was intact. Basically I wound up with a p-dog doughnut. Intact dog around the outside with a big hole in the middle.

Naturally my mind had to form the image of a p-dog doughnut. I guess those things my wife says about me might be true after all.

Just picture a two inch diameter steel stake driven through the middle of a dog and then withdrawn. Nothing was blown off the dog. If I'd had one of those fancy phones with a camera, I'd taken a picture. Oddest thing I ever saw. Obviously, the dog was not enough to even begin to open the bullet. It just slipped through like a field point tipped arrow...... with a few more foot pounds, of course
