OT Shipping question
My local UPS pick up point is giving me grief. Can an individual ship a handgun direct to a dealer for sale in another state?

Re: OT Shipping question
Yes. Generally, UPS gives no problems IF you go direct to one of their locations -- not a vendor who offers UPS service, but UPS itself. If you're dealing direct with UPS, ask to speak with a supervisor -- they usually know the law, and their own rules.
Re: OT Shipping question
According to Federal law an individual can ship a firearm(handgun or long gun) by common carrier (not the post office in the case of handguns) directly to a licensed dealer/manufacturer. Individuals can also receive the firearm back from the factory/gunsmith in the case of repair without going through a dealer.
Not all dealers will accept an individual shipment. They can according to federal law but some don't like to. Your State laws may be different for both dealers and individuals.
Now injecting postal/shipping company regulations/rules. UPS rules say all handguns must ship by 2nd day air(minimum) and I don't think they accept handguns by other than licensed dealers(their website makes this less than clear), long guns are the same as the postal service if going by ground.
US Postal Service says no shipping of handguns by anyone other than a licensed dealer, long guns must be double boxed with no indication of what's inside and you must declare that it's a firearm at the window.
Fedex ground will not take handguns by individuals but it will with express (air) with returns to the individual in the case of repair. I know they will ship handguns ground by licensed dealers(savy dealers know this, it saves them a bunch of money over UPS).
I don't think any of them will do pickup by an individual, it has to be taken in.

[Can an individual ship a handgun direct to a dealer for sale in another state?]
Yup - Just as Pisgah posted.
The "only" thing is, UPS & FEDEX "rules" require you to spend the extra $$$ for overnite/NextDay shipping for handguns - which is why I mail mine through USPS @ $11.95 Flat Rate Box, via a friendly FFL (USPS will only allow FFL to FFL handgun mailings)
BTW - When I recently returned a revolver to a factory for a warranty repair, the factory sent me a pre-paid FEDEX shipping label & told me to just "box it up & send it" - so I did just that.
No FFL, no "declaration", no "next day fees", etc - just regular FEDEX shipping.
The FEDEX clerk never questioned the package contents, even though I insured it for $400, nor did their forms ask of the contents (like UPS).
