That's a great point. I think I will do that. I'm sure I can start bigger than a 22, but I may not want a 357 mag yet!

They won't be standing still, and if you're smart you won't be either. Ever try and shoot that 5 shot snubby on the move? How about reload it? Real life is not the square range, guys. Threats are different now, and you have to be prepared for them.
I carry a Glock 19 9mm and 2 spare magazines, concealed, every day. Whatever happens, I know I'm gonna be the one to handle it. I won't have backup from the local PD, or a military squad anymore. You don't get to choose the fight, it'll be what it is. If you don't start thinking a little bit offensively in todays world, you're behind the power curve already. I've never been in a fight and wished I had a smaller gun...![]()
Are there times to have a smaller gun? Sure. I have a 642 and a Seecamp .32 for those occasions. But I make a point of doing everything I can to have my primary gun with me. You may only get one shot (pardon the pun;) make sure it's better than the other guys.
Absolutely!! No finer man I know ... besides our Dad.madman4570 wrote: alnitak, with Mike as your brother, you got some major "I got your back" going on there.
Thanks Madman. Hope we get to meet up with you someday ... I enjoy your posts.madman4570 wrote:God Bless your whole Family!

Steve has made some very good points and I can't disagree with any of them.Steve Collins wrote:I'm going to make the case for not carrying a "pocket" pistol. You can carry a full size gun fairly easily, and it's better to have a gun 24/7 than when you "think" you might need it. When/if you have to fight, what do you want to have in your hand; a pocket gun, or a full size fighting pistol? Dress around the darn gun!
Exactly. I am a big fan of the various S&W Centennial (enclosed hammer) myself. .357 gives you nice options, but .38 is great with good ammo. The all stainless gun kicks less and is more pleasant to shoot, but the Airweight / AirLite guns sometimes carry much easier, especially in a dress pants or coat pocket. For a dedicated pocket gun, a 442/642/342/340 gets my vote (and the new .22mag Airweight Centennial that they are coming out with might be interesting also for some circumstancesjeepnik wrote:5 shot .38. Pick the flavor of your choice, be it blued steel, stainless steel or one of the lightweight materials. Either a bobbed or "hamerless" design works best for pocket carry. Make sure you get a good pocket holster. They keep your revolver gunk free and in the proper position to draw.
Oh... I dunno about "slow"... my 180s hit 1200fps from my SP101...Bogie35 wrote:Yep. From my limited experience with rifle cartridges, heavy and slower usually means less recoil. At some point the lighter loads' velocities "cross the line" and start to hurt.
Regardless, I'm going to gradually work my way up to the heavier loads. Yesterday, my only flinch was on the first one, because I've never fired a powerful handgun. I think I even gritted my teeth and closed my eyes! After I realized it wasn't so bad, I was steady and didn't even blink.
