At the risk of having Uncle Elmer reach out from the grave and snatch my soul, I have always though it would be cool to have a Ruger Bearcat rechambered and rebored to .25 ACP. I have dreams of loading it with some nice, 55gr, square-nosed Keith SWCs.... No, I have NO idea what it would be good for, but you have to admit...it WOULD be cool. I wonder if Elmer would forgive me?

In my personal experience I know of two folks who were killed graveyard dead with one shot from a 25 ACP.
The first was a Deputy Sheriff carrying a 45 Auto. He was shot in the back of the head at the base of the skull by his wife as he was going out the front door. The range was less than one foot. There was no fight in him when he hit the floor.
The second was a Pharmacist who was shot in the ear by his wife after a protacted domestic argument. The range was just a inch or two and the bullet severed the brain stem rendering him brain dead. I stood by his bed as they disconnected the life support and wheeled him off to "harvest the organs".
In both of the above cases, the little bullet shut down the central nervous system. Also in both of these cases the dead husbands had given their wife the little pistols for protection. Is their a message here?
The 25 ACP is better than a slick soul shoe when your life is in danger, but not by much.
I would never carry anything smaller than a top notch .380 with proper loads. Today I am carrying my Browning Hi-Power loaded with Cor-Box DPX loads.
I have the 25 Auto that killed the Deputy (above) in my collection, but I have not fired it since 1959, nor would I carry it under any circumstances. I would chose an ax, machete or spear over it, if I had the choice. Either of those are more effective and scare the pee out of folks. Far more scary than a mouse gun.
To each their own, but no 25 ACP for me! Nope..not me!

Moral of the story? Do we ban wives, or just not give them .25's?
