Sighting options for Marlin 1894C

Post by Goat »

I have a late 1980s vintage 1894C that needs a "better than factory sights" option. I love the way the gun handles so well without a scope that I hate to scope it. I normally do not even think about it and just mount a scope. Normally I would stick a low power straight tubed Leupold on it and be done. I have had a Williams 5-D on it but had to bottm out the elevation to get any where close to sighted in. I need a taller front sight but also would like to have something I can see in the fading light in the deer woods. The problem is the dovetailed front sight. What are my options for the dovetail AND something I can see?

This front sight happens to be pictured with a FoolProof, ILO the 5D you have, but you ought to get a Williams Firesight, at least 1/10" taller than the measured height of your current dovetailed front sight blade (not with the ramp) - as they're available in several heights.

Other companies, like Tru-Glo & Hi-Viz, also make similar fiber-optic replacement front sight blades. They're all priced less than $10. @ MidwayUSA.

Out with the old, in with the new !

As you already have the Williams, Pete suggestion would be the least expensive. Since my newer 1894 Cowboy was not D&T  I went with the XS system on mine. Its works well and that white line on the front sight is very visable to me.

Consider the Skinner, all the other sights are made for the 336 and hang off the back of the 1894. He will make you a custom front sight for $10.00.
