I live fairly rurally and my local electric company has recently decided that they are going to cut off electricity to the rural areas periodically due to the high fuel prices. They said that we will not get a warning when they will do this(so far, just once). I raise animals and have my own well with a sub-pump which doesn't like power outages. Somebody asked them if they will pay for any appliances or our well services if the power outages cause them to go out, they said that it was our problem and they are not going to be responsible. I asked if our bills will go down and they said no.
Are all areas of this country getting this bad?

Re: OT-What is going on with america today?
i used to work for a big utility company that does the same but they did indeed notify customers. they also had a voluntary program that allowed shut downs to willing customers that had and developed their own back up sources; their own generation sources.
i live rurally, too. a few years back we were interrupted for three days due to a big fire. i purchased a generator that will carry my entire household, 220 well motor, 220 elect dryer all at once. i got it from sears for $3200 as memory recalls. i've had to use it only twice, fortunately. the tank of the generator will hold enough fuel (unleaded regular gasoline) for 10 hours of generation.
we're in for more 'rough times' with the rising costs of energy i fear. especially if al gore and his constiuents are some way brought back into play. i think the only way to cope with todays crisis is to cut back consumption every way possible. we are being forced to consider relocating closer to town due to this rapid, dramatic increase in living costs. our costs have gone up 300% in the last two years! that does not include medical insurance premiums, either...but that's a different story.
you know its getting bad when folks have to 'finance' a loan to pay for heating oil...
IMO, unless this economy is brought under control and the costs of living, energy and such reduced, this country will collapse as a viable economoic power. the cost of living has dramatically escalated in just a few short months and there is no way for the average working man to keep up.
i watched a financial guru on fox news say "the average budget allows 3% for gasoline and now it's 4%...they'll adjust and keep going..." and another said: "the average household income is now $200,000.00 per year..."
what i'd like to know is: what planet do they live on???

Yep - the sheeple in the cities are already used to that kind of thing (not necessarily power specifically, but the idea that they are dependent on some political or corporate whim).
We haven't had rationing per se, but have had 8-10 outages this week due to trees down and so on; usually we get maybe 10 brief outages per year. We're installing a generator for the freezers, well, and electric fences. Ironically, it WON'T run our home, as all the other things are in a barn on a separate meter. In our house all we really need it our wood heat and some flashlights though.
All you have to do if you want to see America's future is look at other countries where a socialist economy, police-state government, and so forth have taken over. Brace yourself!
Countryside and Small Stock Journal is a good resource for living off the grid.

They live in the Urban Ratholes on the East, Left and Chicago coasts.donw wrote:...i watched a financial guru on fox news say "the average budget allows 3% for gasoline and now it's 4%...they'll adjust and keep going..." and another said: "the average household income is now $200,000.00 per year..."

To them, anyone making less than 6 figures and doesn't live in multi-family housing (tenament ot highrise) doesn't exist.
The battle between the social classes in this era is NOT between the Proletariat and Capital, but the Urban Leech and the Rural Food Producer.
Who has the Votes?
Who has the Guns?
See why Gun Control is so important?
You need only controll/manipulate 3 things to control a nation... Firearms, Fuel & Food.
And if you can controll the first 2, you control the third.
The Jackboots aren't coming after me boys. I live in the 'burbs. They are coming after YOU on the farms/ranches. I Guarantee it.

Re: OT-What is going on with america today?
I truly believe we are about to embark on a revolution or a collapse of law and order. This winter, it will cost $1000 to fill up a 275 gallon oil tank. How many "working" people can afford that, let alone the non workers and parrasites of society. Most Americans have forgotten how to survive without the many things that are provided to us through technology. I have been preparing for this breakdown for 30 years. Be Prepared--------------Sixgun

I keep to my own community, for the most part. Other than the decrease in the value of the dollar I have not noticed these problems.
I hear friends in other areas and read peoples experiences on the internet and worry that I am just oblivious to so much.
