Benjamin Sheridan 392 Steroid

Post by El Chivo »

I went to the range today and brought only my new unfired 392, souped up by mac1airguns.

Well, that thing is NICE. Smooth pumping. With the upgrade, it takes 14 pumps, but those last two, well, tough on my arms right now. So I sighted it in with 12 pumps.

I got headshots on a squirrel sized target at 40 meters, no trouble staying within the 1 1/2" head. It also easily knocked over the rimfire half-sized chicken silhouette at 40 meters. I shot several times at another chicken which wouldn't go over. I thought I was missing it. When I went out to take a look, I found that someone had put a hunter's pistol chicken in with the others, and it had four hits on it. And each shot had nudged it back a little so it was barely standing on its base.

This "toy" gun has a very nice trigger and balance. I really like the idea of using my own pumping force to drive the pellet. At 12 pumps a shot, I won't be firing off a brick of pellets in an afternoon, but that's ok with me if I can get a target full of bullseyes.

Funny, but the Benjamin just has a nice feel to it.

Last time I went scouting, I climbed to the top of a ridge to check out the territory on both sides. When I got to the top, I was harassed for about an hour by a flock of crows. They circled me, cawed at me, called attention me, swooped down on me. Hope they try that again

Have you got any idea what kind of velocity you were getting from it?

Is it a .22 or a .117? If its a .22 you can use it for turkey down here in San Diego county.

14 pumps should get me about 800 fps according to mac1airguns. It's a 22.

Some have reported the pellets going supersonic in the .177 version. I didn't want that so stuck to the .22.

You ought to call MAC up and order his $25 dollar peep sight
for the Steroid gun. It will improve you shooting due to
much longer sight plane. I got the 177 version as I wanted
to flatten the trajectory and reach way out there.
Using a round lead ball, I shot clean through an adult
Canada goose that was harrassing my baby ducks at mealtime.
enter one ribcage and exited the other ribcage without
hitting any wing parts. THAT I thought was impressive
for a pellet gun. I had learned from previous penetration
testing that a round solid ball will out penetrate by a
wide margin but of course wouldnt be as accurate at
long distances.
