Bot question???

Post by Rusty »

Bots are here from time to time we've all noticed that, but you can't click on them to see any info about them either. I was just wondering if the mods can pick up any details about them or if there's anything on them at all anyway.

Also am I correct in assuming that it's this new upgrade that allows us to tell when they're here now and that they've always been here before anyway we just didn't know it?

Yes they have always been here. Google Searches would not work without Bots looking for key words.

As of yet, Google isn't passing on keyword/username associations to the US Gooberment like they do for the Chinese Gooberment (in accordance with Chinese law...).

OK, I give, and I surrender my computer ignorance . . . but what is a "bot" . . . ?

Short for "robot".

It's just a program that does a specific task - in this case look for keywords as part of somebody's search.

Other 'bots automatically fill out web forms and create spam. THoseare thwarted by those "type in the letters in from this image" fields since the bots can't decipher them.

There's a 'bot for about anything you want to (repetitively) do on the 'net.

It is, that's why we now see the Google and Yahoo bots. The others are blocked and you don't see them.

Seriously, this is a non-problem.
