2nd Cody Winchester show

Post by Malamute »

I arrived late, and didnt get a chance to see everything yet, but there's a lot of very nice old guns, most with extrememly optimistic prices, and some decent deals. One of the deals, (at least it seems so to me) is a rebuilt Winchester 1886 in 50 Expess (50-110) cal. It's a 10,000 serial range, and has been rebuilt. Has decent color case hardened receiver, lever, buttplate and forend cap, nice wood, not fancy, just good condition, The markings arent as good as Mike Hunters, but it's a pretty well done rebuild. Reportedly it started life as a 40-something. The barrel is 26" octagon, and fairly heavy, tho it may be normal weight for the caliber. The price is marked $5500, which is probably less than the restoration work, let alone caliber work. If anyone had an urge for an original '86 in 50 cal, this would be a good shooter. If I had the money, I'd jump on it, but, I don't,... :(

There's a 1947 94 carbine barrel in very good shape for $50, 30 WCF cal. The ramp is made integral from the same billet as the barrel.

I stocked up on odd small parts for 94's, now I can replace some goobered up screws on a couple guns.

I procured a NIB Canadian Centennial "carbine" (actually a short rifle), 20" octagon barrel, full mag, shorter rifle fore end, crescent butt, that I'm probably going to sell. I already saw something I like more, after I bought it. I'm going back in the morning. :D

An intersting display was a consecutive numbered set of special order Winchester 1886's, in 40-something cal, the interesting part, besides they had the same special features, was there's 3 of them! They were very nice, half mag, half round, extra grade wood, shotgun butt, etc. The guy aquired them over a 40-some year period, with the outside numbered guns first. Cool display.

What other leverguns are you seeing out there? Any Burgess, Whitney/Kennedy, or Evans guns?
Sincerely,

Hobie

I saw a couple of other levers besides Winchesters and Marlins, and a few Savages. I didn't pay much attention, as I was trying to get all the way around. One in particular I noticed, I glanced at it laying on the table all of 4 or 5 seconds,...maybe. I don't know exactly what make it was, it struck me as a Burgess, but I may be mistaken.

An acquaintence had a Remington Hepburn in 40-65 that was designed to be carried in a scabbard as a saddlegun for elk hunting, front sight was made of ivory & it had a tang sight, didn't get a chance to inquire about his rifle after he passed cause the family left the area.We had a favorite restaurant in Roscoe,MT called the Grizzly great steaks, when Mel Gibson owned the Bear Tooth Ranch in Absarokee,MT the Grizzly was one of his hangouts.
