OT - Hunting land web site

This link came from a paper industry trade paper - Rayonier is a big player and owns a lot of forest land.

Our furniture and possessions are still floating on the Atlantic so we are sitting on lawn chairs watching and old 14in TV. MY antique guns arrived safely by air freight. Customs never opened them, just cleared them straight through. If they X-rayed them they must have a powerful machine to determine that my Winchester 1886 was chambered in 40-65 and not 45-70! It is very tempting to load up some "obsolete calibers" but I am not prepared to take that risk.I have applied for my Firearms Certificate, which should be interesting given what I am asking for.
On the plus side, I am going to a Western shoot tomorrow and am invited to a Quigley match at Bisley next weekend.
By the way, don't mention it to Nath but there are three foxes that stroll through our garden most nights - they must know I don't have anything to shoot them with yet.

Sitting on lawn chairs watching 14" TVs sounds familiar. I hope every thing else turns up as safe as your antiques. Good luck with the firearm certificate,I guess those foxes may not stay around for long once you get tooled up again!

When I lived in the Northwest, we did a lot of hunting on land owned by Potlatch Corp. free of charge.

In CA I hunted a LOT of timber land owned or leased by Weyerhauser. Never had any problems.

Yeah, there are still a few good ones out there, but the way I read this site it was asking for Bids to buy Lease Rights.
...Exclusive hunting privileges are extended to hunt clubs and individuals who have license agreements through Rayonier.

Existing License Renewal & Payment May 31, 2008 at 12:00 noon EST
Bidding Opens for 2008-2009 Season June 15, 2008 at 12:01 a.m. EST
Bidding Closes for 2008-2009 Season July 31, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. EST
Read the PDF: http://www.rayonierhunting.com/forms/ot ... tarted.pdf

It's all about securing their properties for "hunt clubs" with exclusive rights for the highest bidder.

How about $33000 for an annual lease?

In the state of Wisconsin, if your timber land is designated "forest crop land", in which most of Weyerhauser and the others are, they are considered accessible to licensed hunters. Also there are 2.35 Million acres of state/county forest available in northern Wisconsin.

http://freehuntingland.com/maps/wi_county_forest.html

I am very fortunate that I have personal access to over 1k of acreage that belongs to friends, family, and myself so that I really do not need it though. That being said, near where my permanent domicile is, there is a great area for hunting called the Kettle Moraine State forest. Which does not show up on this map.

I have yet to find anything like that in Indiana. Here you either Own, Know sombody, Lease, Lottery or join the "orange army" on the DNR Fish & Wildlife Free Fire zones.
