I have an Old Model Ruger Super Single-Six that has three tight chambers and three that are looser in the LR cylinder. I haven't slugged them yet to know their true IDs. The three tight chambers are a tight fit for some brands of ammo, while the looser chambers feel normal.
Accuracy is fair, but nothing to crow about.
If this was a .45 Colt cylinder I'd simply have the chambers reamed out to the same size. But I've got mixed comments about this on TRF that makes me think most gunsmiths don't care to work on these, or feel it's not important. I disagree based on my experiences with center fires, and the lack of accuracy of this revolver.
Does anybody here have any idea on where to find a chamber reamer for the .22LR or know of someone who has one and would do the work? I'd like to get the chambers equalized on this revolver.
Joe

JOE,
BEFORE YOU FOOL WITH THE SINGLE SIX TEST IT FOR GROUPING WITH THE THREE TIGHT CHAMBERS AND THEN THE THREE LOOSE CHAMBERS. DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE THREE TIGHT ONES SHOOT THE BEST; DO YOU WANT TO LOSE THAT ??
ALSO MEASURE THE BALL END OF THE CHARGE HOLES AS THAT IS THE IMPORTANT PART. ALL SIX MIGHT BE THE SAME AT THE FRONT, YOU NEVER KNOW.
JOE, I WOULD BE REALLY CHARY ABOUT CHANGING THOSE TIGHT CHARGE HOLES.

A couple years ago there was a postal match over on TRF. I shot it with my ancient Ruger Standard Auto. The guy who put on the match told me he shot it with his Ruger Super Single-Six. So I tried with mine. The best I could do group wise was around 3" to 3.5" at 25 yds. I can do better than that with my OM BH .45 Colt.
I never did try the tight vs loose chambers individually so I can't say what that result would be. But I'm one of those guys who doesn't want to mess with individual chambers. I want the thing consistent. I'll check it out as you said the next time I go to the outdoor range. There just isn't enough light in the indoor ranges for my eyes to see anymore.
I shoot very little RF ammo, so I'm not in any real rush to do anything.

Not well, but it isn't because I don't shoot much RF ammo.Andrew wrote:How do you sleep at night?J Miller wrote:I shoot very little RF ammo...Joe

I dissected a 3" #4 buckshot 12 gauge shell and now have pellets with witch to slug the chambers and barrel of this Ruger. Will report back when I have done so.
