A compliment to the levergun..
This starts off as a story so I will try and keep it breif.
A couple of days ago, my dad wanted to go to a little town where his people were from to show me about our ancestors. On our way back, I saw a sign on the side of an older building advertising reloading equipment so I pulled in. They didn't have much but a box of older Super-X 32win spec for $20. I bought it and the guy looked at me and told me a story about an elderly gentleman who lives in the little town who has hunted with the same rifle every year for the past 60 years; a Winchester 94 in 32 win spec. Every year, he has taken a buck with this rifle. 2 years ago, his friends told him that he should retire the old gun and get him a new one so he traded it off for a new Remington 700 in 30-06 and had a 4x Burris scope mounted on it to help with his failing eyes. His friends sighted it in for him and when he went out for his annual hunt, he missed. Very angry, he went back to the man he traded it from and demanded his old winchester, went out and killed him a buck. Swore that he would never own another gun for the rest of his life.
I sat there and listened to the story patiently(I like those kind of stories) and he then explained why he told me that story. Apparently, the bullets I bought from him were the last bullets the old man had bought and had recently passed away.
I think the little story speaks volumes for anybody who has a favorite levergun.

Re: A compliment to the levergun..
I have come to believe we have, most of us anyway, have too many guns. If we were like that old gentleman, owning one and KNOWING how to use it, we would be much better off. Personally, that's part of why I posted my thread about 94s can do it all.
We really don't need all of what we've got. I know, what's need got to do with it?

Sadly, these days, we have to think that whatever gun we would like but don't NEED may be BANNED next year, so I think we all tend to get ones we don't necessarily need.
Don't most of you hope to 'outfit' your kids or grandkids when you pass on? Surely the kids who are in diapers now won't be able to get EITHER a 'vintage' levergun, or an 'EBR' when they grow up (because WE have not done our jobs well, in terms of reigning in our government, I'm sorry to say). At least we can buy now and gift them a couple of basic firearms which they can enjoy (if 'allowed' to grandfather them in by the Demoncrats) when they are older.

Good story!

While I will NEVER admit to having too many (or exactly how many I have
) I will say I'm down to 2-3 more on the "must have" list. In fact, I may start consolodating soon...

Yep - try to pick up anything I am interested in - or may be - whenever I can find a deal. Never know when the anti's will win the Presidency again (given our selection this year, it's a pretty sure thing).AJMD429 wrote:Sadly, these days, we have to think that whatever gun we would like but don't NEED may be BANNED next year, so I think we all tend to get ones we don't necessarily need.
YES! Another major reason for a large collection. I want to make sure my son gets guns that will no longer be available - or are no longer allowed! With any decent luck I'll last long enough to give some to grandchildren too!!!AJMD429 wrote: Don't most of you hope to 'outfit' your kids or grandkids when you pass on?
Which is why I prefer to buy face-to-face from individuals. Can't take what they don't know about!!!AJMD429 wrote: At least we can buy now and gift them a couple of basic firearms which they can enjoy (if 'allowed' to grandfather them in by the Demoncrats) when they are older.

Another thing. A well purchased gun collection is a very good investment. Not the best place to put your money, granted but they do go up every year. Further, when the parasites on humanity do manage to get a ban passed, the types banned go WAY up.
Just make sure they are secure and/or insured. Mine are both.

Re: A compliment to the levergun..
Thanks for the story Morgan.
Reminds me of my ex-wife's grandfather. By the time I'd met him he was in the throws of alzhimers but a still a gentleman. Her dad gave me a partial box of 30-40 Krag ammo that belonged to her grandfather. Her dad told me you could count the number of deer he had taken by the empty rounds in the box. Each season, one bullet. There were seven missing from the box. That was the last box of shells he'd bought for his Krag sporter. Never practiced, plinked, shot for fun. One shot, one deer. He had several boxes of empties to go with it.

Great story! Whoever ended up with the old timer's rifle has a jewel...I hope it stayed in the family.
OH BOY! I never considered grandchildren...I have been busy outfitting my three young boys with everything (bolts, levers, shotguns, rimfire and centerfire, handguns). It comes to at least six guns per kid. This grandkid thing will open the floodgates!! I have to get a new safe, or two.

Re: A compliment to the levergun..
I asked him about the rifle but he didn't know who got it. I hope he had family to leave it to.
Re: A compliment to the levergun..
I know a guy like that who used a 6.5mm Carcano carbine...
