after market ladder sight for Marlin 336
I have several Marlin 336's and an 1895. i put XS (Ashley) ghost rings on the 1895 and one of the 336's. Any one have experience with replacing the factory rear sight with an after market ladder sight? Is is possible? Is it practical? Is it dumb?

If you mean like the original carbine rear sights on winchesters, then you can get one similar (has a big buckhorn sight when folded down) with a Smith Enterprises rear sight.
I'll see if I can dig one up for you...
ETA - yep, found one:

I have one on my Stevens sportsman (an old turnbolt 25-20).
It works good - the idea is to regulate the rear sight to 50 or 100 yards (probably 100 for your Marlin) and then adjust and lock the flip-up to a further distance - 200 yards maybe. Or you can make little marks for 150, 200, etc. and adjust as needed on the fly.
Oh, hey - just noticed this is your first post- welcome to the board! Stick around and stay a while!

Thanks OSOK. That's exactly what I had in mind. The 336 I'm fixin' up is a college grad gift for one of my blood thirsty boys. He hunts a lot of feral hog. I figure if I fix him up one, he'll leave my ghost ring rifle in my safe. He doesn't really like the ghost ring and likes a finer bead. He is a very accomplished marksman (with younger eyeballs than me) and can probably actually hit something at 250 w/ open sights. The one you recommend looks great, too.
I see you're in the Great State of Texas. I'm brand new to this forum stuff so I must have missed how to set all this up. I live in Dallas and hunt south (Webb Co.) and Hill Country (Edwards Co.) and anywhere else I get invited.
Thanks, again for the help.

Look up skinner sights, he has just developed a ladder peep sight for the 336 that screws into the scope mount holes on the receiver, I plan to get one for my 1894.
