Winchester Got One Right
I got locked out this morning for about two hours. However it was no big deal. I had my Winchester 9422, 200 CCI--CB Longs, and a cold pepsi. I have a 2-inch gong at fifty yards i can shoot off my front porch-so the shooting commenced. I shot a few rounds and then a shell got stuck under the elevator. I was locked out of the garage and house so I had no access to a screwdriver. I reached into my pocket and puled out a quarter. I then thought there was no way the quarter would fit. Boy was I wrong. I think someone at Winchester designed the take down screw to be removed with a quarter. The quarter fit the screw like a glove. I removed the shell and commenced to burn up them CCI's. So Winchester got one right. Tom.

Re: Winchester Got One Right
Winchester got a lot of 'em right. I've had to do the same thing out in the field. When my 9422 was new it would feed shorts, longs, and long rifles mixed in the magazine. As it got older shorts are a bit iffy. The last time out I had the same thing happen with the little shorts and used a quarter to fix it all.
Hopefully they won't discontinue quarters.

Re: Winchester Got One Right
My barrel on my 9422 says 22LR, and 22L, but it does not say 22 shorts. I have a bunch of 22 shorts, but I did not run them through my 9422 because the barrel did not list 22 Short. Can the short's be shot in my rifle?? How much shorter is the case on the Long VS the LR??
I normally shoot Remington Target Grade-Gold colored 22 LR shells in my 9422. However at 50 yards and a peep sight both loads hit the gong off handed. I have not shot the two together off a bench, but they have to be pretty close if they are both hitting the gong?? Does anyone think it will hurt to shoot the Long's(I shoot a bunch)?? Tom.

I don't think they'll discontinue quarters Joe but with the economy going the way it is, they'll just rename them pennys and drop the old pennys from circulation.J Miller wrote:Winchester got a lot of 'em right. The older 9422s, mine is an 76 vintage, are stamped S,L,LR on the barrel. They changed that somewhere in production. "As far as I know" there were no changes to the design of the action. My theory is that as the gun got used and loosened up a bit the shorts became problematic like mine, so Winchester just dropped them from the roll marks.
A 22 Short case is just over half as long as a LR case. I don't have any to measure, so I'm SWAG'ing it by looking at the pick in the Winchester Product Guide.
The .22 Long case is the same length as the LR case and will not hurt a thing to shoot them.
As for the shorts, drop a few in the magazine and lever them through. If they work great. If not, I guess stick with the Longs and LRs.
Ed, that's scary. You could be more right than you know. Have you ever seen the old great big British pennys? They are copper and almost as big as an American half dollar.I don't think they'll discontinue quarters Joe but with the economy going the way it is, they'll just rename them pennys and drop the old pennys from circulation.

On my old Marlin 39, I use an aluminum dog tag I keep on my key ring
(I check for my keys before locking any door behind me and the tag makes
it an easy confirm) to tighten the take-down screw (it's a little loose but
the aluminum means no scratching) but a quarter fits better.

I really need to pick a 9422 up, but they're not cheap. Need to start saving.

Head0001, does that Williams work well on that Winchester. I've never used the ones for the tip off mounts and I just don't see the sights well on my 9422 well anymore. Do they sit so high that you have to change the front sight? My Marlins are D&T and I hve the Williams installed on them.

Re: Winchester Got One Right
I really like the Williams sight on the rifle. That rifle is my fun gun. It is also my go to squirrel rifle. I have one of the twilight peeps on the rifle. I do not know for sure if the original front sight will wotk or not. One of the first things I always do is change the front sight to a taller-white bead. I can pick up the taller bead in low light situations alot easier. And I prefer the white. Tom.

Re: Winchester Got One Right
My 9422 had S,L,LR on the barrel but when it was proof tested in Germany they crossed out the "S".
Next time I take it out I'll try a few shorts to see if they feed! by the way I always carry a coin when hunting with my 9422 and 9422M just in case.
