No, it wasn't you, I was jumping the gun. Those comments seem to always show up in discusions of various ranges and types of guns, it did in the "30-30 can't do it" thread, and has numerous times in the past. It's almost as bad as some Marlin vs Winchester threads. Malamute

Marlins vs Winchesters...I'm glad you brought that up! I just wish most Marlins were as sleek as a Winnie (my Marlin Cowboy is an exception), but Marlins have Winnies beat as far as smithing and cleaning goes. There are no drop in trigger kits for Winchesters unless you call scrounging up pre rebounding safety parts a trigger kit. I wish all my Winchesters had the same trigger as my grandfather's 94 made in 1917. It doesn't break like a glass rod, it breaks like a capillary tube! It has never seen a smith. The rest of the Winchesters need a talented gunsmith's attention. Oh yeah, there is a kit to hide the fact that you removed the cross bolt safety for Marlins. OK, flame away. I got my Nomex undies on!

Well Winchesters are just prettier I guess. :D

You left out the shock smily face from the quote.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

I have both and I like both. But I have to admit that I like the way a 1960's version 336 Texan (35 Remington) looks and handles--just like a 94 Winchester. Straight grip, slender forend, slick action.

My 1886EL is wonderful, but a crappy trigger. I had a 94 Wrenchchester, but the new car came with a jack handle, so I got rid of it  My 1895CB, with the Happy Trigger and a P.Pad is the nicest rifle I have. In all honesty, I wish my two 39s cycled as smooth as my 9422mag, but the 9422mag has the worst trigger in the world and is not accurate worth a hoot......

I have both, and they all need a little TLC to make them run smooth & slick. As a reloader I prefer the Winchester top eject over the side eject of the Marlin. Also I find the Winchester much easier to single load from the top rather than the side, and I am a Lefty.

I like Levers in any flavor, style and Mfg.

If I am sitting on stand which is 50% of my hunting I plan on using my marlin with a 1.75x6 Leupold. If I am walking in any way , shape, or form I will use my Winchesters. That is my plan anyway.

That's why I have stuck to pre-war Winchesters and pre-1950 Marlins. With 1894 winchesters only those made prior to 1930 will do. IMO, 1900-1935 1886s are the best of the lot, too. 8)
