Next week we will be going to this area of the Empire State for three days. We were watching a Travel Channel show about the Herkimer Diamonds. These clear crystals are found in the southern portion of the Adirondacks. I became really intrigued and figured it would be a neat vacation to see how many I can collect.
In addition it seems that there may be other sites in the area. I was wondering if anyone from upstate NY have suggestions for things to see? Thanks

Re: OT: Herkimer NY vacation
I grew up in Syracuse. Moved to Maine in 1990. You should try to get a tour of Remington Arms C. in Ilion, NY which is a short drive away. I would have recommended a tour of West End Brewery in Utica, but alas there was a fire last week so I don't know if they are open. If I think of more, I'll post again.....

Most of NY state being upstate...
If it were me, I'd see Fort Ticonderoga and other local sights, Old Fort Niagra, Lockport, the Farmers Museum and Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, take a ride on the Erie Canal, and then move back to Lake George to live... Ok, so most of the Finger Lakes are nice, Champlain is nice, the Thousand Islands region is nice... Ok, so what was the question?
