OT - 40S&W Load Question

Post by jdad »

I bought my first pistol, a Sig 226, but with the cost of ammo reloading has become mandatory.

I have access to a lot of 231 and AA#5. I ordered some Laser Cast 155gr RN SWC and have plenty of once fired brass, to start with.

I'd like to keep the loads under 1000fps, for plinking and practice. Any suggestions, with either of the 2 powders above? I can't seem to find reloading data for cast bullets.

How critical is OAL? I've never loaded for a semi-auto before.

Thanks
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I've never loaded for 40S&W but I have loaded a lot of cast for 9mm and 45acp, those powders should work for your intended purpose.

I read of a lot of bushwah about 9s not shooting cast when I first loaded for the caliber. I imagine the 40 will be no different.

All autos are OAL sensitive and IME especially with cast. You'll likely have to tweek the overall length a few thousands back or forth to find the happy place for cast with any auto.

I cannot assist you with reloading information, however you may find my recent article on ammunition (highlighting the .40S&W) useful for making some decisions. http://www.gunblast.com/JoeRiekers-NewAmmo.htm

I load for the 40 Smiff, but mine is a 6 banger so I have a few more liberties. I settled on using Unique.
