OT - Hog Vision Q's

I understand that hogs don't see well at distance but can anyone quantify that?

What about color vision? There will be times I'm required to wear blaze orange when hunting so I'm curious.

Hogs have good color vision, but it's not like "human" color vision.

Hogs see a spectrum of colors and they are unable to define sharp edges or changes in color or pattern, rather they see fuzzy edges transitioning to a solid color within their spectrum of vision.

The best I can think is that they see fuzzy blobs/patterns of color, but like most animals they are very attentive to movement. Their hearing, as well as their sense of smell, is excellent.

FWiedner put it very well. In my experiences they see movement easily, can detect color contrast and will stare and try to focus if they smell or hear you and stick around long enough.

I inadvertently walked up on one in a creek bed that looked straight at me from about 15 feet away but he didn't bolt until he smelled me, which only took about 5 seconds. I was bowhunting and had just seen a porcupine so when I first saw the hog, I thought "Needles" had just circled around - but I was wrong. In any case, the hog did not see me - but he did inhale a huge whiff of air then charge off into the underbrush. Their nose is their greatest weapon - followed by hearing. The thing that really chapped me was that I already had a broadhead nocked in the bow and had I processed the situation properly, could have easily stuck him.
