Kirk, not as good as you regarding full range reports, but experimented today with my '73 Trapdoor rifle. Tried to see what difference lube would make and how a wad might affect a hollow base bullet. The bullets were cast using a Lee 459-405HB mould, 20-1 lead, and all had 62grains FFg Goex Cartridge. Set the chrono at 15', very surprised by the velocities. Used Ranch Dogs target at 100 yards...very surprised by the accuracy, usually I'm not that good, POA was bottom of target(point blank on original rifles was about 200 yards).

Very interesting, OTH! Thanks for posting. I just received my SAECO 500 grain bullet mould this week. I'm planning to make my debute at casting this Saturday with this mould. If it goes well, expect a range report soon, on how they work in my Springfield 1888.

Kirk if your 88 is like the others I've been around , she'll really shoot with 70 grs of 2f, or cartridge , with a .030 fiber wad, and that bullet of yours seated to the last driving band. If you load it like that you'll likely find that buffington sight will be spot on the yardage marks as well.

Don, I'm sure looking forward to trying it out. I've never cast before and I've never pan lubed before, so it should be interesting.

Kirk the casting part will probably give you the most fits, but once you get all the kinks worked out it'll go good.
Pan lubing is pretty straightforward and easy, but it's a bit messy.
